Are Amazon going to drop the Lovefilm branding soon?
I noticed on the back of my rental envelope they sent me last week that it had Amazon's logo on the back of it (above the main logo), the O, notably, in the style of a playback logo. Also, I downloaded the update for the PS3 app the other day, and it's listed in my list of apps as "Amazon/Lovefilm". Could this be a sign of intent from Amazon? Having already changed to Amazon logins for customers, could this be the next step in their grand plan?
Myself, I think the Lovefilm branding has always been a strong one, they'd be foolish to get rid of it. |

Myself, I think the Lovefilm branding has always been a strong one, they'd be foolish to get rid of it. There are plenty of Amazon owned services which do state on their site and often in their logos that they are an Amazon company but haven't been brought 'inhouse' Just to name a few IMDB, BoxOfficeMojo, Alexia, Goodreads, Audible, liquavista and shelfari. Most of which could be integrated into Amazon to enhance Amazons core offerings but haven't been |

They should align with the Amazon Instant Video branding in the States, and sort out the licensing and get the same content available there available here.
The difference is ridiculous and makes Lovefilm not worth paying for. |

It does seem odd that it's called Amazon in the US and Lovefilm Instant over here. Once the DVD rental by post business starts to die down, which one day it will, I reckon they'll bring it under the Amazon brand.

^ You are probably right, they will eventually move.
There are a few interesting differences between them though. Lovefilm use a better web interface than America's Amazon Instant Video, which is just the basic Amazon shop site - which is great for buying DVD's or books, but far less so for on-demand content. Amazon also gets a little confusing at what is available under the subscription service - especially on their website where they mixed PAYG with the prime service. And in the UK, Lovefilm operate much more like Netflix with a monthly service, but in the US there are no monthly options, you need to subscribe for a whole year - but you do get the prime benefits as well. I personally prefer Lovefilm, but there are some advantages to Amazon Instant as well. In any case, there are full reviews for both services over at Eye on-Demand, so you can compare the two for yourself. |

Does seem that the Amazon branding is slowly becoming more prominent. Given that the service is now also heavily focused on TV too a rebranding to Amazon Instant Video would seem more appropriate. I see they are also now having people sign in with their Amazon account which I guess could be the next step in integrating the service. Would happily sign up for Amazon Prime if they threw in free streaming TV and movies like the US version of Prime offers.
