Good evening and welcome to the first live show of The X Factor 20. Yes, the series that see’s US and UK act fights it out for the crown is back and tonight it all begins. Twenty acts will battle their way throughout the contest and tonight they will be taking on the theme ‘Songs Of The Year’ which will see them perform songs that been UK Top 40 hits this year. The two act with the fewest votes will automatically be eliminated from the competition while the next two acts with the fewest votes will then have to sign for survival in the dreaded final showdown. But yes, I am very excited for tonight!

OK, so let’s get this show on the road. First up, we are heading to the Over 25’s category. Here, performing her rendition of Emeli Sande’s number four hit ‘Clown’, it’s LILLIE MCCLOUD

Oh what a beautiful start! You portrayed excellent passion in that song, it was heartfelt and lovely to hear. Well done and great mentoring. I’d like to see more of a risk later on in the competition but it was a great start – Well done.

My comments are short cause there's a LOT to get through.

Lillie McCloud

Lillie, welcome the competition. I thought that was a good song to start with, look forward to what else you do.

Lillie - What an amazing start to the first live show. A beautiful rendition of that song and you poured your life and soul into it, we all felt the emotions from that performance so well done on opening the show so beautifully.

Lillie! Your voice is brilliant, I think this song was a little too safe, but for week one I think you have got it just right, well done to you and Naruto

Lillie - Boring, boring, and more boring. I’m sorry Lillie but this wasn’t the right song for you in my opinion. You have such a rich powerful voice, so I don’t know why your mentor picked such a mundane song? This really didn’t do you any justice. With the right song choices, I think you’ll go far in this competition… but with songs like that, you’ll become very stale and probably won’t last long.

So, Lillie gets a positive response from the judges, well apart from one. Will she be safe this week? OK, now let’s move on to our second act of the evening and the Groups category. Hoping to earn your votes and do their mentor proud by performing ‘Boomerang’ by Nicole Scherzinger; it’s GIRLS UNITED

Nick’s Comment
Girls, girls, girls what can I say? The song could of suited you a bit better and at times and at times it was hard to see you as a group dynamic but regardless it were great fun to watch.

Girls United - A good first performance girls. The vocals are there but i would have preferred a slower version for your vocals to stand out. But nevertheless good job!

I hate to say this as I'm a fan of you, but this was really not good tonight, I didn't like the song and I don't think it suited you at all, I'm very sorry,

So a mixed reception for Girls United this evening. Next up this evening, we head to the Boy’s category. Taking on Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran’s duet ‘Everything Has Changed’; it’s SAM CALLAHAN

Nick’s Comment
I feel at bit unconfused at this performance. It suited your voice but the version was a bit iffy. It felt a bit dry and a bit plain and dull. I applaud for trying and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Sam - Again, another very well suited song choice. We have some great mentors I thought this song really suited your voice Sam, and I did rather enjoy it. As much as I liked this performance, I do worry that your vocals aren’t quite up there yet. Compared to the other contestants competing, I’m not sure if you’re good enough. You’re a better guitarist than vocalist. As honest as ever

Sam - Lets be honest your vocals aren't the strongest, so i don't think this song was the best of choices. It was a pretty average performance in my opinion as i think you are more about the charisma and performance type which this didn't show.

Now this week I think I may have misjudged this choice, but you gave a bloody good performance and you impressed me with it, I understand why people didn't like it, but your voice is a fantastic and you are a perfect popstar for me.

So again, another mixed bag of comments altogether. Now, it’s time for our first contestant from the Girl’s category of the evening. Here, singing Jason Derulo’s ‘The Other Side’; it’s RYLIE BROWN

Nick’s Comment
Well done Rylie. You got me rocking in my chair and having fun. Your performance was great and just marvellous.
