There is bound to be some emotional baggage from not only the regeneration but other things aswell. 9 was dealing with the aftermouth of the time war. 10 lost Rose and Donna. 11 has also had his moments of anger and guilt. For some reason he was out of sorts in the first half of S7. He faced the daleks who allways bring out the worst in him."I thought you ran out of ways to make me feel sick". Rory then asked "who blew up all the daleks". 11 replied "who do you think?". His expression showed a lot . Next episode he leaves Solomon to die. Yes he was a murderer who killed just for greed and profit but still. Allmost sent Jex to be executed in TCM. Amy managed to talk him round. TPOT 11 tells Amy he is trying to hold on to her and Rory before they fade from him. Sadly they did in TATM. He has Clara now but is it fair to expect so much of her ?. She has allready saved him several times as his "impossible girl!" .Will we ever see her start to get angry with him or even fear him ?.Only time which there is so little and so much off will tell.

Dunno about dark, but maybe just a bit more "alien" and less "goofball," maybe with a touch of The Shadow.

But I stand to be amused and delighted by whatever Capaldi comes up with. He could do "professorial" but we've seen that angle before too.

I'd prefer Christopher Eccleston 'dark'. That is, the way he dealt with his emotions.

A psychic crime-fighting vigilante? The shadow knows!

Not very dark at all.

Hopefully whatever the Doctor goes through up to Christmas will be a catharsis and he will emerge a bit less angsty than he has been since the beginning of New Who.

As dark as they can possibly get away with. I want a Doctor with seriously massive issues and anything that tries to stand in his way gets pulverised by a revamped sonic screwdriver, or whatever is the most mean and nasty weapon at hand, without a thought. TNOTD did an excellent job at foreshadowing a darker side to The Doctor, and I think 12 should live up to that. 13 can be Mr Nice Guy again.

While I appreciate the lack of a more appropriate word, 'dark' just seems like one of those buzz words that goes around to promote the show. 'Darker', 'grittier', 'edgier'... they're all far too simple to sum up any incarnation of the Doctor.

But as I said, I appreciate the lack of a more appropriate word, and I would quite like to see Capaldi a bit more like Eccleston than Tennant or Smith. That's not to say he shouldn't put his own unique stamp on things, but in terms of how his incarnation of The Doctor should be handled is with a slightly more serious side, a more intimidating character who isn't your local neighbourhood alien, rather than a battle-ravaged man from impossibly far away.

I'd like him to be a little less 'panto' than he was with Tennant and Smith.

I'm not expecting him to be the slightest bit dark, I think if anything he might go in the opposite direction. Most of the mans CV has lent towards comedy (and very good at it), it's the two Who related parts that have to an extent been against type.

It will be interesting to what happens with the Musketeers in the new year. The younger audience will see him for weeks playing a baddie, knowing that he is the new Doctor, but (presumably) not knowing anything about his personality. Assuming he's a decent baddie (rather than a ham for Saturday night telly), he'll probably put a lot of space between that character and however he portrays the Doctor.

Not specifically dark.... just less of a hyperactive **** really. A happy medium of Ecclescake, Troughton and McCoy. A bit more manipulative and sly maybe.

Would be nice if he was calmer and more in control, someone who walks serenely through the chaos, taking it all in before solving the problem without any timey-whimey cattle excrement.

Dark yes, as Dark as Colin Baker wanted to be and without the broodiness of 9 - 11! Tennant tried but never really carried off Dark imo! Smith has come damn close but still tended to blub to much for my liking!

A bit more classic Master then? But without actually being evil... I think that would work

I don`t care how dark he is, I want the writing to improve and to stop urinating all over classic enemies

The Doctor could be a no nonsense Doctor.

The Doctor-Just when I thought you couldn't do something more foolish, you've actually exceeded yourself and that means something to me, to my friends, you see, I trusted you but now my wave is coming and with that comes my power, beware The Doctor.
Clara- Doctor, have you considered that the sonic screwdriver can't hear you (laughs Clara)
