Here's where you can post songs that sound like they have basically copied another song (not sampled it) and discredited the original artist. This has been done a lot of times.

I'm assuming we are excluding songs with the same producer?

Madonna's "Vogue" (1990) ripped off Deep in Vogue (1989) by Malcolm McLaren. His song was the first about 'voguing'.

Madonna's "Holiday" (1983) ripped off "Look of Love" (1981) by ABC:

Madonna was also successfully sued in 1993 by the singer Fairuz after sampling part of "El Yom 'Ulliqa 'Ala Khashaba" on "Erotica" without permission. It's not the only time she's been successfully sued for plagiarism.

Madonna ripped off her own song "Express Yourself" with "Vogue."

Britney ripped off her on song "Baby One More Time" with "Oops I Did It Again."

Ok, in this case, obviously the artist is not trying to discredit themselves, but in a way they are because it's kind of lazy...

Block Buster - The Sweet

The Jean Genie - David Bowie

Apparently all parties agree the similarity is coincidental.

Bowie used to rip everyone off. He's admitted it. Jean Genie is the vastly superior song though.

Adele's "Someone Like You" has pretty much the same piano line as The Corrs's "Closer"

The theme from the porn film Emmanuelle was ripped off from King Crimson's Larks' Tongues In Aspic Part 2. Get a load of that pop-pickers.

One of the most famous cases was when George Harrison was successfully sued for plagiarism regarding his 1970 song "My Sweet Lord." This was deemed to be a copy of "He's So Fine" which was a number one hit for The Chiffons in 1963. It was written by Ronnie Mack.

And very unfair it was too..the melody line was only sligtly similar imo. It was said to have really affected George Harrison and stifled his future creativity. Seems almost unbelievable today, given the amount of un-credited ripping off that goes on.

What about Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines & Mavin Gaye's Got To Give It Up - that's taking plagurism to the extreme!

We Can't Stop is very similar to Price Tag http://youtu.be/r1lkC6inExI which is similar to Where Is The Love which is similar to a ton of other songs.

Chris Rea has the same (excellent) guitar riff running through several of his songs, starting with the earliest where it's very much in the background, gradually coming more forward until it's the main part of Auberge

Yet ironically George admitted My Sweet Lord was meant to rip off "oh happy days"
