So I am in the process of replacing a lost phone. I am definitely going to be taking out insurance with the next one (I am a student). What insurance would people recommend? Thanks

Do NOT go with "Protect my bubble" Awful company. See if your bank account has phone ins. A lot do these days.

See if your phone provider does.

Bundled bank accounts with mobile phone insurance are definately worth looking at -- I currently have mine through RBS and my daughter was robbed and had her phone taken.

The insurance company arranged & we'd collected a replacement within 24 hours !

But it's most worthwhile if you have multiple handsets - less clear if just 1.

insurance2go

They have always paid out for me, and unlike others, insurance starts the second you sign up, no waiting 14 days or whatever

I had insurance with Santander as I'm a student but it didn't cover loss and it expires tomorrow anyway hahaha.

Thanks for all the replies so far

Do you have a history of losing phones? If not it's worth considering self-insurance i.e. putting money aside into a savings account should you ever need to replace another phone. That way the money is still yours if you don't lose your phone, the only drawback is you might not have saved up enough if you do.

Unfortunately, this is the 3rd one I've lost in a decade of having one I'm a student so saving basically isn't happening but I graduate next July and have a job lined up so I will be able to finally start saving properly

I have a tendency to drop my cellphone and crack the screen (this has happened 4 times to me already) so cellphone insurance is a must have for me. After looking at the options, I chose ProtectCELL for my iPhone insurance. They offer a few different plans that you can choose from. One of the main reasons I went with them is because they cover an unlimited amount of accidents per year. Other insurance companies I found out only would cover 2 accidents per year. Since you have had a few accidents yourself this would probably be a good company to go with.

I applied through my travel insurance when I broke my Galaxy Nexus (my fault just happened to coincide with a holiday) and they paid me £450 within a week with no hassle.

I'm now fully covered through my home insurance.

Not worth using your home insurance on a phone. You'll pay through the roof on renewal. No pun intended

Best bet is to put money in a seperate savings account and be more careful in the future

Home insurance is certainly the best way to go I reckon.
I'm with Cornish Mutual (coz I was a farmer once..Hahaha) and they just added £5 per month to my insurance to cover up to £500 for loss, theft, accidental damage or spontaneous combustion etc..
Doesn't cover abroad but then I need a passport to get to the next town
£500 is enough even for the most expensive handset as long as you are on a contract because the network will only charge you the price they pay for the handsets if you need a new one. This is considerably less than retail.

I was just about to start a similar post after Vodafone's insurance informed me of their decision to cancel mine after previous claims.

Not going to use home insurance because it's a shared house, and I'm pretty sure the premium would go up considerably after a claim.

Think I'm going to go with insurance2go.co.uk. Does anyone else have an opinion of them?

Agree with both points.
