James Arthur vs The Voice
James keeps on getting into these skirmishes and I know a certain number of you don't like him because he's 'arrogant' (don't really see how from this but there will be comments) but he has a point - The Voice is a bit of a fix just like the XF, even more so in fact. I'm not saying the XF isn't but people on the message board seem to be in denial of it. It's a bit of a joke the world they live in. At least we accept the XF is a fix.
The Voice actually claims to be all about The Voice when after the blind rounds, it's so isn't (hence why Mike got into the final!). Famous singers were featuring on the blind rounds every week, everyone had a story to tell about being famous - the girl from Hollyoaks, Cleo, Karl. It felt slightly elitist. Then there's matter of the pre-blind auditions which The Voice fanbase seems to not acknowledge. There is a round before the blinds - and the producers see their faces - how on earth do they know those that have reached the blinds were the best singers? When the producers got all of these famous people/good-looking people in especially? Some of the comments on that article are ridiculous and quite frankly naive. Rant over...

Somebody has to narrow the applications an invitees down before the blind auditions. Fix is a strong word to use, is he saying the blind auditions aren't blind at all or that the judges are being told by producers who to turn for? Once the blinds are over then sure it's no longer just about the voice but unlike X Factor you can't make it past the first TV round just because "the girls will love you" or because you had "personality" (i.e. a joke act).

I dont like his arrogance but he has a point and its quite funny. Its like a perfect ad for XF...
"I wanted to be a singer so I applied for the voice. They told me I wasnt for them, that I was lacking something. So then I applied for XF,won and got a winning single" The X Factor - more than just the voice

The Voice is good when production is good (see: the Emmy-winning USA version), but even that can be full of shit when the judges are all patronizing, then quickly make everything about them. They try to push their brand of "making everything about the voice," compromising the other, equally important qualities needed to make it big. Then again, The Voice can be seen as nothing more than a few weeks of indie acts singing covers. |

Rant over... ![]() Mike, gorgeous as he is, was allowed a free bye at one point and he got through on the basis of his looks, rather than his vocal ability. And the "argument," that Britain "needed," a Country singer etc, was a little on the lame side. I think if you go out and about round the land, Britain probably has a number of decent Country singers.. The significant difference, for me, is that 2 of the judges IMO are the real deal in terms of being able to judge others and to perform themselves.. However, I think the judges, other than Tom Jones, of course, could've been a bit more down on Mike in terms of his vocal performances.. Jones, of course, was always going to champion his act.. I'd live for the day when all of the judges could give truly objective critiques of performances.. That certainly doesn't happen in the X-Factor.. If people screw up, then I think there'd be a lot more respect for the judges, if they admitted it, even if it is one of their acts....cue knee-jerk booing from the crowd, at the slightest hint of any criticism! ![]() Rich. x |

The problem is that most posters on DS don't seem to understand what the word "fix" means. The shows can only be a fix if the winner is pre-selected and the audience votes are discarded so that that person can win. This is clearly not the case in either show.
That either show might want someone to win and edit it to make them look better and their competitors look worse is not fixing the show. |

I was a fan of James on the show last year but this is really putting me off him, he seems a bit bitter which is odd as he's doing pretty well, in comparison to the previous male winners started off.

Not a fan of The Voice UK but James has no right to be calling The Voice UK a fix considering X Factor did everything in their power for James to win as soon as the live shows started last year. Just saying.

James Arthur doesn't realise he is yet another pawn in the crap factor and will be living in obscurity avenue very soon. here is why. The X Factor winner releases a single a charity based one ensuring everyone buys it and therefore a cert for a number 1, happens every year. The artist will make peanuts out of it - one as they haven't written it and two its for charity. Then Syco will make the artist spend 8-9 months working on that very hard first album, a ploy so the artist falls out of the public eye, thus ensuring when they typically release their second single which is always around the time the new X Factor has started it fails and then Syco have an excuse to shelve the artist.James you should know by now its always the runners up that fair better, exception being Leona as she has talent!!! the crap factor still fooling 10 million every week.

I think you maybe wrong this time around. Heard the new single and it sounds pretty good, and James is co-writer.
James is as much a puppet as anyone else whose ever won the XF, or The Voice for that matter. I wouldn't mind but the whole 'real talent' angle pushed by the show and his record label is entirely frustrating given how much people seem to believe it. Like him for his voice, sure, or his looks and image, or for his potential to release decent music, but don't tell me he's more credible than anyone else who has ever entered XF because he's exactly the same as all of them, he just has some clever marketing going on to convince us otherwise. |

People may like or dislike him but he does engender reaction. He seems to also get reaction to the sound of his voice. You love it or hate it but it does not get labelled as just nice, because he does sing with emotion. Only time will tell if he can breakaway from the X factor tag but I think he may have a longer career than any of the previous X factor graduates.

Neither of the shows are a 'fix' - that would suggest the votes are being rigged or something. Both shows are manipulated to an extent - X Factor moreso than The Voice I would say. It's kind of a lose lose situation for The Voice, if they based it all purely on 'the voice' than they get criticised for having boring contestants and not producing any stars, if they don't focus it completely on the voice and take other things into accounts then it gets criticised for deviating from the original format.
