There are loads of threads about some kind of flash vote and what will happen during deadlock etc. but I've gone back 10 pages and I can't find anything actually explaining what this Flash Vote thing actually is.

Can someone enlighten me please? thanks

At the end of the Saturday night show phone lines will open for 10 minutes and the person who gets the least amount of votes in that 10 minutes will be announced straight away and will be in the sing-off on Sunday... Then the phone lines will reopen as normal and whoever has the least amount of votes by the time lines close on Sunday will also be in the sing-off.

Thanks, very much.

Sounds like a ploy to get people to watch live instead of on catch up!

If that's the case, then it sounds like it'll be more transparent who the least popular act is. When they just announced both names on Sunday, you didn't really know which of the two was bottom, unless it went to deadlock.

Come to think of it, how will deadlock work now? Surely this changes that too.

It seems like the PTB haven't thought this one through

It depends whether the loser of the flash vote is included in the main vote. If they are, then it's not a certainty that they will be bottom come the deadlock (in fact it would probably spur people to vote for them more meaning that they are less likely to be the bottom come deadlock time).

Alternatively, they could just say that there is no deadlock, as such. If the judges are split then the loser of the flash vote goes. Knowing who will go following a split will make the deliberate use of deadlock to avoid making a decision impossible. Which is a good thing.

It's anything but a good thing because resolving a deadlock based on a ten minute vote from the previous night is not only unfair but it'll make the judges vote seriously anti-climatic, because effectively the idea of 'deadlock' doesn't exist anymore because Dermot will be saying 'if you opt to send home X, the vote will be tied and Y will go home as they lost the Flash Vote'...no big booming sound effects, flashy red graphics and tension...how utterly dull knowing what the outcome of a tied vote would be.

Unless the loser of the flash vote is still included in the main vote. Then we would still have the uncertainty and tension come the deadlock.

Of course, any other system other than using the loser of the Flash Vote to resolve a deadlock would be better at the moment because it will still be unpredictable.

I can't see them keeping the lines open for the first bottom two placer though, what would be the incentive for people to vote for them on the off-chance it goes to deadlock? They're still going to be in the bottom two so it wouldn't really make sense unfortunately

This whole thing hasn't really been thought through. I was hoping the in-app voting might be able to resolve a deadlock but seeing as that vote is only being opened after the Flash Vote it doesn't look possible either.

Sounds like they want more people to spend money voting this year.

I feel sorry for the poor sod who is the bottom Saturday and has to wait till Sunday for the sing off. Talk about nerves.
Just as cruel with the switching seats thing.

What they could do is do the 10 minute flash vote after they've sung, but not announce the result - making people tune in til the end of the show to get their vote in, without ruining the tension on Sunday.

Sunday's are tough enough to fill with interesting content as it is, let alone if the lowest votes and very likely to leave contestant is already known

Edit: Duh, then people wouldn't know not to vote for the bottom of the vote contestant - nevermind!

But on the flip-side the person who is bottom on Saturday will have 24 hours to prepare for the sing-off whereas the person announce on Sunday will only have a few minutes to compose themselves and get ready to sing...
