OK.....but I don't get why.

As for Watch showing the DW programme - WE DON'T ALL GET WATCH!!! This programme should be on BBC3 or BBC4.

I'm now so past caring, due mainly to the disgusting way the BBC has treated the show and the fans in the anniversary year, that I'm not bothered whether I see DW ever again or not.

I've completely lost interest in the whole thing.

I'll now leave you all to your "The BBC is always right" idylls. Have fun!!”

Really? Really?! Surely you have to admit that's a bit of an overreaction. Hell, even if they did nothing on the promotion front, I wouldn't stop watching DW. Because I love the show. Sure I would be pissed as hell at the BBC, but that has no impact on my enjoyment of the show.

Surely if you love the show, you should direct your anger solely at the BBC, but still appreciate the show not stop watching it just because. Otherwise, it's like hating the lieutenant because of their captain's orders.

Of course I'll almost certainly watch the 50th. And the documentary, and then the Christmas Special. Why not, if it's on and I'm not doing anything else? But I'm not, at this moment, at all bothered about any of them.

I feel very badly treated, as a fan, by the BBC. I was looking forward to all sorts of goodies this year, and there's been none. The Doctor Who programmes on Watch has been the last straw. They should have been on the BBC.

Others disagree, and are happy with what we've been given. Lucky old them. I'm not, and now just feel completely uninterested in the whole thing.

Oh, well, at least there's still Sherlock.

Not excited by the recently discovered episodes Granny?

I'm sorry, but I don't believe a word of it. Granny is another "fan" who's acting like an overgrown spoilt kid.

How rude. She is doing nothing of the sort. Why are fans bashing other fans for being excited and enthusiastic about the show and wanting to see a trailer? I am with Granny. Of course I will still watch. But I am currently fed up with the show to an extent I haven't been for a while. The fact that fans such as Granny and myself who were sure things to be as excited as could be about TDOTD are voicing discontent proves that the BBC haven't managed it perfectly.

and don't use the missing episodes as a smoke screen. The two things are entirely unconnected.

People say they are fed up of entitled fans? Well im fed up with the same old people trotting out their same old made up schedules and telling others to be as patient as they are. If you don't care about a trailer then good for you. Some of us do. Saying 'Well Atlantis did this!' means nothing. This isn't Atlantis. Its a one off special event for Doctor Who.

I'm not bashing fans who are excited and enthusiastic about the show. Quite the opposite - I'm bashing people who say they're no longer "bothered" about the show simply because they haven't seen a trailer yet (even though we're still six weeks away from transmission).

You could always try stamping you feet, I suppose.

That stamping feet joke has been used already in afraid.

Funny that when all the Classic Who aficionados were up in arms about the delayed announcements they were for the most part seen as passionate as opposed to entitled. Whereas if you express irritation that a trailer was shown over two months ago and all we have had is two crappy stings then you are labelled a brat.

Also laughable that some people are claiming 'promotion has begun!' because we have some low res screen grabs from SFX. Some fans are entitled? Well some fans are far too easily pleased.

Address me by name and be done with it, Salad.

Using what the BBC has done recently to predict what they're going to do again is not far fetched. Nor is a list of actual dates with actual events "made up."

Alright, clearly this cycle isn't going to end any time soon. So I'm going to pull out of it until after the 50th. I wish you all luck.

It obvious I was referring to you directly. But I didn't address it to you as we both know our positions on this. Much as I often agree your other posts and understand your opinion we will never ever agree on this specific issue and will just go round in circles. No point hammering it out again.

But others keep saying the same and stepping in. And I'm sick of this 'impatient child' insult. Grannys anger with the way the show has been managed this year extends beyond just the trailer and is a valid feeling as much as any. To dismiss it as 'entitlement' is rude and downright disrespectful.

And I do not see the relevance of citing the promotion for Atlantis. I could just as easily ask where are the movie of the week style posters for Atlantis. The answer is obvious.

I wasn't attempting to use the missing episodes as a smoke screen. It was just a question to Granny because it lifted my spirits. I was feeling as dejected as you guys about this year. To be honest not many of the announced items of programming really excite me and I would have hoped for more but I kept quiet because others seemed happy about it.

But then this week, something amazing happened, something unbelievable and incredible. I was too young to really appreciate the significance of the Tomb of the Cybermen being discovered and there's only been bits and bobs found since. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever see any more missing stories turn up. It was an event to behold. Doctor was on the front page of the papers, it was being discussed on breakfast TV, the One show, the 10 o'clock news, it was headlining as many websites as you could throw a stick at and do you know what the best thing about it was? For once, just for once everyone forgot all the petty squabbles about RTD v Moffat, Tennant v Smith, Old v NuWho and EVERYONE WAS HAPPY!!! For once I felt proud to be a Doctor Who fan, to be part of a shared experience. It felt good to talk about it amongst fellow fans. I know I will remember that experience for a long time to come. I'm that excited about the episodes and I've not even watched them yet!

And then what happens? A mere two days later and everyone is back to being miserable and the same old boring arguments. What is so wrong with trying to be a happy Doctor Who fan?

When people who regard themselves as fans start saying they're "not bothered whether I see DW ever again or not" simply because the full trailers haven't started yet then they deserve the "impatient child" label.

THIS. I have to say, those missing episodes have made my DW Anniversary year for me.

I have been vocal in my delight for the returned episodes. The excitement of watching Web of Fear...even on my shoddy laptop on itunes...was the kind of fan joy that is very special.

But for me it is a separate issue from the anniversary special. I can be happy about one and annoyed about the other. And isn't it a bit of a sad reflection on the production team of New Who if the best excitement we have had ten months into the 'biggest year ever!' is all thanks to the hard work of a fan who was entirely unconnected to the BBC and did all the hard work himself?

Time for the New Who team to step up and actually do something beyond two lazy and cheap idents and a hackneyed hash tag.

Actually, no not really. The recovery of missing episodes is such a magnificent deal it would have overshadowed anything that the current team could have done this year! Episodes people thought they would never see again - so I can see your point - both subjects are kind of like apples and oranges, pretty much incomparable as that old saying implies...

Just to add I think the trailer is just an easy thing to focus on in the lack of anything else. If other things had been forthcoming. We could have had weeks of teasers with classic clips building up the hype and putting it into context. How about if they had done a fab vote for each doctors greatest story and then broadcast it on a Saturday evening? Eleven great weeks of countdown. Wouldn't need any footage of the new episode. It would feel like something.

As I say take away the hard work of Phillip Morris and hoe rubbish and lacklustre has this year been so far? Oh wait. The Pointless special did air!

The events of this week created a buzz around the show as much as any trailer could so I really don't see how it's unconnected?

It's all part of the same thing to me. All part of the anniversary celebrations. The Day of the Doctor special episode is only only part of the celebrations, it was only ever going to be one part of it. The BBC has to try and please an awful lot of people, spanning fifty years. I doubt all of it will appeal to me but hopefully there will be something there for everyone.

Personally I would have loved it if they have put the trailer that they showed at Comic-Con up on youtube a month or so after, but they didn't. Who knows why? They have their reasons I guess. All people are trying to say is that it's still too soon for trailers to be shown on TV because people would get bored of it after six weeks.

"No son, Christmas day is on 25th of December...you've just had bonfire night, you can't have any presents yet"

"but I want presents NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!"

If the BBC had been running the trailer from the date the fanboys seemingly demanded (IE, comicon), you'd be so sick of it by now.
If Doctor Who had been inserted into every talkshow, current affairs and light entertainment programme from September onwards they'd be accused of over-saturation and wasting the licence fee by the usual black hats who want to see it sold off and Mr Murdoch's profits get just that little bit greater.

They're really damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Doctor Who is one of my favourite shows.
But it's just ONE show amid a myriad of BBC output and the Anniversary is but one day in the show's seemingly everlasting life.
It should be celebrated with programmes around the week of the date itself and trailered for about a month before.
As seems to be the BBC's plan.
Anything else would be overkill.

They have seemingly just begun adverts for Children In Need and that's much closer to us than the broadcast of the Anniversary ep.
I imagine there'll be a similar length of time between the first proper trailer for Who and its broadcast.

Just because the fans have had this date in their diaries seemingly ever since Silver Nemesis aired doesn't mean the entire world shares their priorities.
Realistically, how much build up can you give a 70 minute episode and a few related spinoffs before you're accused of making a mountain out of a molehill?

Perspective. That's what this forum needs.

That's all I asked for. The Comic Con trailer should have been released online. The trailer we are getting will likely have no episode footage and be more like the campfire trails of old.

I would never propose full TV trailers now. I wouldn't expect any news or talk show or newspaper coverage until the week before broadcast.

I am saying they could have released the trailer from Comic Con online for the fans. It wouldn't have spoiled anyone. And then by now they could have done some TV teasers that are better than what we have had. I am not or ever have done advocated tv trailers every week or over saturation. But they couldve thrown something better than scraps to fandom. The showing of the trailer at comic con was not for promotion purposes. It was a captive audience. It was a treat for the fans. I wouldn't mind a treat or two as well.

A program like that sounds great and I would have loved to watch that. I do agree that there's been a complete lack of content about Doctor Who this year. My own personal opinion is that the BBC are embarrassed by the old series. Modern programming is so slick and polished, so they are probably worried that it will damage their reputation, or even the reputation of NuWho. The reaction from Alex Jones on the One Show, laughing that you could see the zips on the back of the yeti outfits when they showed the clip from Web says it all really. I was at shouting at the TV, but it was made 45 years ago you stupid idiotic woman!!

I think there's sadly a degree of truth in what you say. Glad I didn't see that One Show clip as I quite like my TV and it was rather expensive. Funnily enough if you squint hard enough at Alex Jones head you can see the scars from the lobotomy they performed. Allegedly.

BOOM!

Disgraceful remarks though seriously. A distinct lack of respect and professionalism for the excuse of having a cheap laugh.

Hardly unexpected from one of TVs prime morons. Amazing that a talent void like Alex Jones who presents a show that segues from stories about car safety into an item about owls that dress up as former American presidents can dare mock one of the most enduring and ground breaking shows of its kind. But then she hasn't been hired for her insights on anything has she. Just keep grinning at the camera dear. Just keep grinning.

Or she could be rehashing the same old tired jokes about the show that weren't funny 20 years ago and demonstrate a complete lack of understanding about television production and being able to assess something based on its era.
