Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of 50 shades of Grey due to not wanting to ruin his career or that he is still on The Sons of anarchy contract he can't break. So the hunt for the new Christian Grey begins

He bailed out wisely.

Ha, he wouldn't have been announced all those weeks ago if it was really contract issues.

Real reason - either his agent has had a sharp word in his ear or the script is appalling beyond belief. Or both. Wise decision for his sake.

Yeah, he definitely bailed out because the script was shit. That, or he was fired.

Fifty Shades of Grey is porn. Nothing more. The so-called story line around it is just foreplay (no pun intended)/ build up filler to the juicy sex parts. It should not be made into a movie.

I'm embarrassed for Jennifer Ehle for appearing in this porn.

Well at least the bloke has came to his senses! This may have just saved his career!

I expect the lass who got cast as Anastasia will follow!

Hey Dakota, remember Elizabeth Berkley in "Showgirls?"

Learn from that

Seems odd this was never put into consideration before he signed the contract

Why sign onto a film and then drop out knowing full well you have a committment to a television show you have already been doing for six years?

I reckon he knows the film's gonna be shit so he avoids it at all costs. Well done.

Scheduling conflicts is the usual excuse for "I don't want to do this" or "Me doing this was a bad idea". It's what DiCaprio used to get out of American Psycho...

Why go from a quality show like Sons of Anarchy to trash like 50 Shades. Guaranteed, this movie will be the train wreck of the year. The critics will slaughter it, it'll be the showgirls of the 21st century. That actress cast in the main role will not find another job again. And no... This isn't an overreaction. We've seen this all before.

He definitely bailed because of the script as FX would have scheduled things around his film commitment ages ago. The search for Christian Grey has been going on for nearly a year. Charlie must have been cast months before it was officially announced. Nope he read the script, his agent warned him against it so he quit and they put out this cock and bull story. End of

The only difference here was that American Psycho turned out to be good. Not surprising considering it came from an already critically lauded cult novel. Unlike 50 Shades.

I think Bomer probably has enough sense to avoid this like the plague.

His fanclub can dream though why they would want him in that abomination is beyond me.

Oh it's the lad from Queer As Folk. Or was.

I keep reading the title as Christian Grey to be racist. It would probably make for a more interesting movie.

The reputation of AP the film is entirely due to Christian Bale - a dazzling star turn. But as an adaptation it's toothless and incredibly watered-down.

As for Fifty Shades, let's see it first before laughing it off. Good films can be made regardless of the lousy original material. Sam Taylor-Wood may surprise us yet.

That was the point. DiCaprio used it because it was a bad career move (it was the subject of several protests, notably from a women's society), rather than because it was a bad film...

It could just not be what Charlie wants to with his career.

I love it that as soon as DS asks who should play CG, Matt Bomer's picture is the main one used

To me, Matt is CG. I don't think he'll do it though...

Expect the next casting to provoke another "Who??" response. Again, it won't be any of the popular names being bounded about. Who'd have guessed at Charlie Hunnam being cast a few months ago?

Most fan comments i've read don't want him in this crap. It doesn't matter though, he won't do it anyway.

Actually, no, let's just laugh at it. That will almost certainly be far more enjoyable than actually watching the film.

Yes, I know, I could be wrong and you can never know how good a film is without seeing it for yourself. But I'm willing to risk my reputation on this one.

Erotic films are tough to make. I think some were saved by charismatic actors or interesting scripts, e.g. 9 1/2 Weeks, Basic Instinct and so on, but the rest were roundly criticised. Such as Jade, Wild Orchid, Color of Night.

So unless Sam Taylor-Wood has the 'right' actors, I don't think Sam can save it. Being a female director doesn't help either. Critics tend to have much lower expectations of female directors. Most pretty much wrote off American Psycho before its release because Mary Harron was the director. Some still firmly believe that she was wrong for the job.
