I'm a little shocked at the amount of people saying it was original/a breath of fresh air considering how awfully predictable it was that Abi was going to come out and do a slowed down acoustic version of an upbeat song.

I'm not a fan, it was better than I thought it would be though. It was a bedroom Youtube cover by numbers, but some of them are quite nice to listen to really.

I love acoustic singer / songwriter types, but people have gone bonkers if they think she's the next Dido or Katie Melua.

same here

of all 12 acts abi should be my favourite based on style/genre of the music she is doing

her vocals are just far too weak however

I have said before she would end up doing 'quirky' stripped down alternative versions of EVERY song. Week 1 and I'm proven right. Little did I know how much she would ruin a classic song

Replace "murdered" with "slayed" and you're about right. Best performance of the night.

It was very predictable. I didn't enjoy it.

I liked it, I'm not keen on the power singers, prefer nuance and tone. I think Abi is my favourite on the show.

Oh my god - yes finally someone who sees sense here. It was lovely.

Out of tune - are you guys having a laugh? It's called a different version? And are you so sure she's out of tune rattie because she stayed in the same key pretty much throughout that. Ridiculous comments (my opinion).

absolutely loathed it!

don't like abi anyway, but she completely bastardised one of my all time favourite songs by my all time favourite artist.
it was really flat and pitchy throughout most of it.

Well let's face it, in your eyes she would never have been able to make you happy with that performance not matter what.

If she was as good as her defenders claim, I would have expected her to be getting far more praise here : I don't buy the theory that people are criticising her for not being a shouty karaoke diva.

It was horrible! Definitely one of the worst performances tonight.

Abi doesnt have a strong voice, or powerful vocals, but she has a nice tone to it, so this is why I like it. I still thought her performance was good tonight.

It was so flat I actually had to leave the room half way through. I don't think that's ever happened before.

Having said that, I think a lot of the contestants might have been having trouble hearing themselves. There seemed to be a lot of fiddling with the in-ear monitors. Sam (the boy Sam) noticeably improved after he'd taken his out.

I don't think people are criticising her for not being a belter, I think it's more just a case of personal taste, though I'll admit she had some very off putting notes in her performance tonight.

Personally I really liked her tonight. I think it was because honestly the night was complete and utter karaoke apart from her. Not saying that she's automatically better because she's quirky and original and did a better version or any of that horse manure, but it was a nice change of pace from basically everyone doing identical and inferior versions of the song they were covering.

I'd definitely agree that she was by no means the worst tonight. Many of her competitors are (average) karaoke singers in disguise.

There were a good number of Karaoke performances tonight. Abi really stood out doing something different with her song.

I think people are being a little harsh here.

There is one thing that very rarely gets mentioned or considered and that is there is someone in the background knocking out these little arrangements. We all know that they do not sing the full song.

It is my belief that she was let down by the arrangement. The first bit was okay but then they had her singing, "Oh-oh, we're half way the-ere. Oh-oh, living on a pray-er", time and time and time again.

On top of that, I don't believe for a second that these acts choose their own songs. Seriously, if they have Abi doing Bon Jovi on 80's night, they'll be asking her to do Slipknot on Rock night.

Oh, edit.....

I thought she SANG well. She'll go a long way.

Ah well.

She was excellent.”

I agree and we don't all want to listen to divas and other shouty singers. Sometimes it's good to listen to a more relaxed type of singing.

Did she do her own arrangement though? She seemed to hint as much in her Xtra Factor interview.
