It appears Abi was put through to fulfill the 'quirky' role. Trouble is there are hundreds of thousands of young girls wearing plastic flowers in their hair and wearing non-prescription oversized specs who will think they sing better than she does.

I like her, to me it was a terrible song choice. I'd buy an album of her own songs tomorrow. I think she's great and too genuinely musical for the show. And Diana Vickers was literaly my most hated contestant of all time, I loathe her. Didn't like Janet devlin either so I wouldn't say only people who liked them like abi.
It was a terrible night with only rough copy and sam b being any good, the rest were just karaoke and forgettable. |

Out of tune - are you guys having a laugh? It's called a different version? And are you so sure she's out of tune rattie because she stayed in the same key pretty much throughout that. Ridiculous comments (my opinion). There are technical ways of assessing whether someone is singing accurately - and she would fail such a test. Your opinion is just that - the facts, when objectively assessed, would prove you wrong. She was flat. She got good comments. I wonder why... |

Catching up on +1 and again i think you lot are over reacting. It wasn't even bad, just different, clearly people don't like anyone but shouters on here.
It was so horrendously pitchy. Very, very, flat in places. It may not have been so bad if it was a more full sound production, but just with piano it sounded horrendous. |

It wasn't different....at all. It was Sophie's version from 2011....except with piano and a few changes.

She was awesome, Not 100 per cent her own version, cause Bon Jovi have done a stripped down version of that song themselves

If she was as good as her defenders claim, I would have expected her to be getting far more praise here : I don't buy the theory that people are criticising her for not being a shouty karaoke diva.

I buy the theory that Melaine fans are still quite bitter about the fact Abit got picked over her. Abi will be in the competition for a very long time so get used to it.

A lot of the people criticising her on the threads tonight don't appear to be Melanie fans (and I've also seen some Melanie fans defending her).

But Abi was poor tonight and thats it, maybe she will improve with the vocal training she clearly needs. She does not sing as well as she plays the piano. |

I don't even know who Melanie is. I just know when people are singing in tune.

Melanie was up against Hanna not Abi. and Mel and Abi are BFF's. Melanie was rooting for her in her blog.

Unfortunately, in the lives they can't fix their voices in post. Abi has never been the best singer but you could tell that all her earlier performances were saved by a little vocal tuning here and there. The judges houses vocals (for all acts) had plenty of production on them. You get to the live stage and they can't do that anymore, so anyone who actually struggles to sing in tune will suffer!

And that's why she is third favourite in the polls. Dream on. Her voice is fantastic.

She's third because of little girls 'relating' to her, not because she can sing! It's unfair that she gets to hide behind the piano. The week she is made to stand at the mic and she'll be gone in an instant.
She has plenty of fans who will vote she won't be going home anytime soon. |

Ella and Jahmene were arguably better vocalists than James last year for example but James was edgier and had his own thing going on which was interesting! |

Live I thought it was pure butchery, but after rewatching it a few times I'm not as annoyed as I was initially.
I still don't like it, but I wouldn't go as far to say she murdered it anymore. I think it was more a poor song choice, but either way, it wasn't much cop. |

Just to be clear, I did like what Abi did with it (I didn't [i[love[/i] it, but there were FAR worse acts last night) - I was just seriously pissed off with the way that they were trying to pass it off as an original version that Abi had come up with herself to show how music she was, when really it was a carbon-copy cover of something that Bon Jovi have done themselves.
See also: the judges praising Kingsland Road for "modernising" I'm Your Man, even though it was exactly the same as the original and one of the little bastards was actually dressed as f***ing George Michael!!!!!!!!!! |

Auto tuning would be a good idea too.
