Just to be clear, I did like what Abi did with it (I didn't [i[love[/i] it, but there were FAR worse acts last night) - I was just seriously pissed off with the way that they were trying to pass it off as an original version that Abi had come up with herself to show how music she was, when really it was a carbon-copy cover of something that Bon Jovi have done themselves.
See also: the judges praising Kingsland Road for "modernising" I'm Your Man, even though it was exactly the same as the original and one of the little bastards was actually dressed as f***ing George Michael!!!!!!!!!!

Someone tries to do something different, does an amazing job, and gets slated for it here. Very bizarre trollish behaviour on this forum.
The judges and everyone else got it right. She is brilliant. |

Her vocals were weak and the only reason it was so quiet was because everyone was bored to death.

Or nodded off. I agree with those who thought it was a terrible rendition of a classic rock song. Abi is just Ella no. 2, imo - every song will be turned into a boring ballad each week.

......what an absolute mess that was. Weak, tuneless, hardly recognisable. It will be a travesty if this girl stays in.
![]() I recognized it.. Admittedly, she was exposed..but, I think she kept the integrity of the original melody.. The last thing I would've described it as would be "tuneless." I've just been informed that Bon Jovi themselves did a version like this, which I cant' wait to hear. It is, of course, possible that they conceived it like this.. If you want to hear a travesty, have another listen to Lorna Simpson, barely a note in tune.. Rich. x |

Abi is another 'marmite' contestant. Some people hated Diana's voice (especially the yodel at the end) others loved it. I can see her making it half way through, but not much further.

I thought what Abi did was original. But if you have a link on YouTube that proves otherwise then, why don't you post it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ayp_GD5myVs It's from America's Got Talent btw, uncoincidentally another Cowell show. He always transfers his favourite song productions between shows, like taking a superb rendition of Hallelujah from American Idol and giving it to X Factor in the very next season as the winner's song. Nothing in this show is original. Or rather, it won't be for long before crossing the Atlantic. So I hope this link silences those "she's so original" comments. She was given the song AND how to sing it. |

![]() Beggars belief, but then, again, maybe, knowing Walsh's other facile comparisons, it doesn't. Rich x |

I've liked Abi throughout, but last night I didn't think she sounded great. I hope she gets through though as I'm sure she can do better.

I thought she was terrible - easily the worst of the night by far. Her voice was so toneless and the song totally did not suit her at all.
I hope she gets another chance as I think the song was just all wrong and she might sound better on a song that she is more comfortable with. |

Critics like you totally miss the point about Abi. It's about the voice. If you don't get it then replace your cheap, underperforming, plastic speakers. Then you will understand why she is second in the polls and a favorite of the judges.

I watch on delay and she got forwarded.
I don't mind her but I do think she is a one trick pony. Found her performance dull and boring last night. |

Here you go then. Here's how a slowed down version showing how it should be done by a good female vocalist. BTW, it's the EXACT SAME VOCAL ARRANGEMENT as Abi's. The producers clearly nicked it.

Sophie's version done the same way also sounded way better . |

I don't even know who Melanie is. I just know when people are singing in tune.
But this Abi sounded like a 5 year old trying to sing a grown up song. It was awful. |

Same here. I only started watching three weeks ago, so I didn't have a favourite and didn't know who Melanie was. The only singer I picked up on was that Paul, who really stood out with a brilliant voice.
