I'm not saying she WASN'T out of tune. I'm saying she didn't murder the song - the choruses made sense. She did the song in a different way which didn't rely on singing the high notes in the chorus because the whole point seemed to be that she would be sliding up to those high notes at the end of the phrases. She kept to the key...so although she didn't sing the high notes - it still made sense...I could see what she was doing - at the beginning of the versus's, e.g. the terribly flat 'we gotta hold on' bit, it was pitchy...BUT the choruses were still on point.

all it means is she did better than the majority of the acts on what was a pretty dismal night

She may have been a bit derivative of a certain sort of style that is current at the moment but the rest were derivative of a style that has been around for several decades.

What gets me with Abi is eventually they will have to remove the piano crutch and then it might be game over.

She is a weak singer, she has a nice voice but has some awful turns of note that really just make her sound terrible. It hides her lack of vocal range which would be fine for a recording artist, but she's not a recording artist, she's a contestant in a variety show and has no variety that we have seen.

I'm not big on her being touted as original either, she's far from original and even if she was original, that's not necessarily always a good thing.

I hope for her sake she doesn't win and uses the publicity to allow her to make her own music, she's just not right for this show, if she wins? Heaven help her!

Abi is awful and boring

She has a rather weak voice, hence they used the echo effect to try boost it. She will get praised to the nines until they decide they want rid and hand her ass to her with an mmmbbop moment, I reckon it will be Aqua- Barbie Girl.

For me I just don't get acts like Abi. I see her in the same "league" as acts like Diana Vickers, Lucy Spraggan etc, and I didn't get them either. As soon as an act is seen as "different" they are praised by the judges, despite obvious flaws in the performance. For me Abi was out of tune and flat throughout the whole song, so at least she was consistent with that. Just not my cup of tea but whatever floats peoples boats.

It seems to me that if you don't conform to the usual X Factor clone stereotype you get in the barbed firing line. I thought she was entertaining and she is clearly talented.

Pretty much this. "Unique & quirky" = anything but.... Nice kid I'm sure but not in a million years would I buy anything of this ilk.

I think last nights show is proof positive that Autotune for pitch correction, cannot be used on a live performance! Or they would have used it on a lot of the the vocalists taking part!!!!

I don't understand why people don't like her, she's special... You don't need the best voice in the world to sell records: what her voice has is a beautiful, innocent and moving tone. She's unique, as far as I can see

I get that some people will not have liked her interpretation of the song - some hereare looking at the original and want a replica - for me that is not what the showshould be about.

As some have said, some people just want the big belters on xfactor singing the big belting songs week after week. These same people I'm guessing have never bought/downloaded a Gabrielle Aplin or Birdy song, these are singers who not about running all around the stage and all about the music, and Abi imo is the type of person who could get fans who don't watch xfactor, on xfactor though she'll be a marmite act

Abi is one of my favourites. I like her. OK, she might not be vocally perfect (but who isn't? ) but she sounded pretty good to me and I really enjoyed listening to her last night. I like that she came out and gave us her own interpretation of Living on a Prayer. It made me sit up and listen.

I hope she puts her own stamp on different songs each week - it's what makes things interesting, and is the reason why James Arthur was my favourite act last year.

i'm actually getting a bit annoyed by all the condescending posts suggesting if you don't like abi its because you "don't understand" the type of music she is trying to do

nothing could be further from the truth for me , I love that style of music, my favourite tracks are generally stripped down, acoustic songs

but when I listen to those sort of tracks I don't want to be sitting cringing every time she hits a bum note, and she does that far far too often

she isn't putting her own stamp on songs tho , acts have been doing that version of living of a prayer she did last night for years

there is nothing original about her , the fact that the poster above you listed two similar acts, and acts that have far better voices and are far better at what they do, says it all

She's original compared to the other acts in the final 12. She stands out from the others, because she isn't just coming on the stage and doing a simple cover of the song.
