Why is everyone talking about vote fixing?

Why would they want the couples all tied in the middle? Interested in what the theory behind this is...

It is alleged that the judges scores are 'fixed' every year. The theory in this case probably runs something along the lines of "if they are all tied in the middle then that makes it more likely that a good dancer will end up in the dance off with a rubbish dancer and then the judges can have their wicked way at the expense of the public favourite". I don't buy any of this by the way.

I don't usually, it annoys me, but tonight I did feel some of the scores were unfair. It did appear the BBC dancers were being treated better than the rest.

Part of me thinks that the after the recent BBC scandals - include the phone in scams - that they'd be mad to do it. And then when I consider how valuable SCD is to the Beeb I think they'd be mad not to.

I guess there must be a certain amount of rigging, stage management, call it what you like, but to a degree which stops short of outright fraud.

Because some people always talk about vote fixing. On every show that involves contestants.

They changed the system a few years back so that don't create a gap in the numbers of points awarded. Does it still work like that? It tends to help the people below the ties, since they're closer in points to those above them than they'd been in the old system or if there weren't a tie.

But doesn't Natalie work for ITV?

More likely to cause one of the middle couples to end up in the bottom 2?

Because the judges, especially Len tonight, was giving "7"'s to dances of wildly differing technical ability.

Makes it seem that marks are already "fixed" before the show airs

Dave is bottom of the leader board but still has 6 points. This means that the couples lowest in the public vote will get 1 and 2 points meaning they could be quite high up the judges leader board and still be in the dance off

Yes it still works like that which is massively to the disadvantage of the better dancers I would rather the judges had to split ties on the leaderboard. I remember them doing this on the Christmas special once when there was a 4 way tie.

Hmmm...maybe...or maybe Len, as always, was being a bit idiotic with his marking...

The disparity with the scores has always suggested a bit of vote rigging. I don't believe that happens. Judges may have personal favourites and the scores may be reflected in this.
I believe they all know each others scores before they are announced.
However I do think that the judges try to influence the public vote, BBC employees always seem to do well, but maybe that is because those who are chosen to compete have the potential. After all it's the BBC doing the choosing.
A BBC employee in this competition, such that is, means good PR for the BBC.

Yes, the judges showed each other their scores before declaring them, on the programme that I went to last October.

By 'declaring' them, do you mean the display of their paddle to the audience? If so then they actually 'declare' their score electronically immediately after the dance is finished (it gives the production team time to set up the score graphics etc). Even if they showed their paddles to each other before being displayed to the audience, therefore, it would have been too late to influence each other.

Oh no, no, no, no, not another Tom-Camillagate!! A number of posters went overboard with PhD maths and the boards got extremely boring!!

Tto me the judges allocate the marks they want, irrespective of what they've given to the previous contestants.

Of course they do. No different to anyone else that has an opinion. Except that this is what they are paid for.

I have a feeling that the judges' (producers') scores are influenced by -

1) Who can be guaranteed to garner newspaper headlines.
2) Who is on a current BBC show (eg. It would be too embarrassing for ITT's own fashion expert to be so unpopular that he is voted off in the first week / Susanna ensures that Strictly is plugged for free at least twice a week on BBC Breakfast).
3) Deals done with agents of higher profile celebs.
4) Most importantly, who is doing the Strictly Live Tour.
