It felt dated, in a bad way.

Lots of poor vocal performances.

I think it might have been the weakest one. I don't actually think there were many bad acts, but no one stood out at all as someone worth listening to in the long run, which most other openings have had at least one of.

I don't know whether to take the OP seriously or not. That was terrible.

Was hoping for a more current theme. Too many straight up covers tonight.

I've always disliked the '80's (presumably because I came of age just after them, therefore see them as the old dated stuff), but this should be a pretty good season once a couple terrible voices get weeded out.

I enjoyed it tonight. Think some of the song choices were beyond naff when there are so many great 80's songs that haven't been karaoked to death but, all in all, not a bad nights entertainment

It was an utter abortion - dated, tired and boring

I was quite disappointed, some singers who were tuneless and flat, some cheesy and some aided and abetted by the backing tapes. Sharons acts are too alike, she has noone different, the girls were forgettable, one in particular clearly cant sing and the rest mediocre and only Imo the groups excelled.
The live shows always weed out the fakes and the overhyped and true to form, we have seen that tonight.

It was by far the worst opening live-performance show in X-Factor's history. If things don't improve then this could well be the show's last series.

The amount of ads and the editing made it a very slow first show.

I thought it was the strongest opening show since at least 2010; if not because of the acts but because they made the overall feel of the show light-hearted once again rather than serious, drab and dreary. It was pleasant and easy to watch rather than painful.

I thought the ad breaks were better placed as well - bar those inbetween the singing and the comments. There seemed to be more show between each break.

In all honesty I think it's just become the 'in thing' on here to criticise The X Factor instead of looking at the positives. If that is the case then so be it but maybe try watching the show for a week without all the negativity from the forum and see if you prefer it. It's reached a point where I certainly do. (But will I be on the forum next week when I can watch it live? Yes. )

Oh my god finally someone who's being sensible. This forum turns into a bloodbath when it gets to the lives! Some people expect everything to be perfect. Shame really...the show's been really good this year!

I quit watching halfway through the last series and was going to give this year a miss, I tuned in after I heard there were no joke acts or Malony's and I'm glad I did! For the first time in years I actually enjoyed the show.

Last year's opening show was a trainwreck iirc, I seem to remember every second contestant coming out with a drippy dated ballad with the theme being hero or something.

I actually really enjoyed tonights show! The comments about being dated are silly, The X Factor has always worked best as a family entertainment show rather than a search for the next popstar with Tulisa banging on about her urban rootz. There was a lot more variety than I expected, all of the contestants could sing and even the weaker voiced ones still gave it their best shot and gave a decent performance. I wasnt bored and the ads felt less overdone. Decent start to the series imo.

I thought it was far to long and padded out.

I didn't like the break for the ads before we got the judges comments.

They styling of the contestants seemed much better, but only time will tell.

On stage performances were poor though.

I liked it. I was disappointed that many of the original backing music for the songs were replaced though, especially 'I'll Be Watching You'.
