Pointless Corrie Characters through the years
Although other soaps are guilty of it, I have noticed since I was a child that Coronation Street have a habit of bringing in a new character, failing to do absolutely anything with them, and then writing them out again because they "were not a success" or words to that effect, as if the character was just supposed to magically write him/herself.
Anyway, who sticks out in your mind as one of these characters? I don't remember his name but there was a guy who was a hairdresser at the salon. They wrote him in, gave him nothing to do for months, then suddenly there was a storyline with his father turning up and being ashamed that his son was a hairdresser. Then they both disappeared. |

Everyone please don't use this thread as an excuse to just slag off characters you don't like!!! I was hoping it could be a good historical thread with discussion. |

Another salon employee, Natasha Blakeman. They brought her in and told us they had such great plans for her. But she did absolutely nothing until she left!
Oh and let's not forget Violet's sister Actually yeah let's.

Oh and let's not forget Violet's sister Actually yeah let's.In 2000 Bobbi and Geena became flatmates above the salon, and Corrie heralded a fabulous and fun new "girls behaving badly" type friendship on the street. Subsequently we never saw them in the flat and the characters rarely shared a scene. |

The point of "pointless" characters is often to give the setting of storylines some everyday normality. Not everyone is a murderer, a serial adulterer or a two bit brass. Those characters have to work against a backdrop of life in a northern, cobbled backstreet. Hence, some people just eat breakfast, buy their paper and go to work.

You reminded me of another salon-related one!

Take Dr Carter for example, he was only meant to be a minor character and was a doctor, it would of been just stupid if he turned out to be a serial killer or having dozens of affairs with the street's women. I have no idea why people complain about him not having an on-screen exit, how else was he meant to leave. People don't leave in dramatic fashions in real life. |

The two sisters who worked in the factory, but looked nothing alike. One was tubby and the other slim; they had a weird comedy, ditzy think going on.
I remember Bobbi. She did nothing for so long. Kelly Crabtree. Michelle's biological son, Alex. Diggory. Was he related to Molly? I find Julie to be a pointless character. She's been with the show for 5 years and hasn't done much of anything. |
