I think Ashley and Ola's mark was about right, however I think some of the other competitors, Suzannah for example were overmarked. He was on a par with her imo but the judges throwing 9's around the place at times didn't reflect that.

I hadn't rewatched Ashley's Samba since the show but it didn't look as good when replayed during Karen's Choreography Corner where she was pointing out the faults.

Still think it was the 3rd best dance of the night (so in the right place on the leaderboard) but no I wouldn't have thought it deserved higher marks than it got. If anything, everyone's score (bar Natalie's) should probably have been lowered by a couple of points.

Yes, I think the judges were (sub)consciously deflating Natalie's score (anyone would have received a ten if she danced like Natalie did in that rumba) and inflating others to make it less stark just how Natalie was really the league of her own. No wonder she and Artem were in tears...

I do think the scores were consciously deflated, and others overmarked. Notwithstanding the hard work involved, I thought the tears were a bit self indulgent tbh on week 3. I could understand it at the later stages like the semi final.

I think it was ok, but Ashley didn't smile and looked really uncomfortable so he made me feel really uncomfortable. He was almost grimacing. I can't believe none of the judges mentioned it, especially as Craig had a real go at Ben for the same thing.

But he's a very strong dancer and when he gets a handle on his nerves he'll be really good.
I have to agree.

Ashley is very good at remembering choreography which is why he can do quite complicated routines. He has a great body for dance because it is so well proportioned with a long lean torso and long legs.

The problem is the tension in his neck and head which results in a weird 'chin down' position accompanied by an awful rictus grin and clenched jaw.

Looking down in dance is a terrible habit. It ruins the line and causes no end of hassles with shoulders, neck and fluidity. Bet he's getting headaches too.

I hope he gets over that. I hope he learns to relax, hold his up and 'breathe into' each movement. He'll look a hell of a lot better that way.

Yes, he has great potential but, like so many other soap men before him, he is too uptight for his own good.

I agree, Ashley was definitely owed a few more points. He had loads of bounce and actually performed. I didn't see any discomfort at all, he seemed quite at ease considering it was a week three samba!

Did you look at his face?
