No doubt her detractors will think of a lot of reasons why she's wrong, but I think Aliona is 100% correct. Her card was marked when Len heard her say (on ITT, during his break from DWTS) that she takes no notice of the judges' comments.

They partnered Aliona with Johnny Ball last year as a pre-emptive ploy to remove her from the show - her success with Matt Baker and Harry Judd preventing an unseemly earlier exit. Reluctantly recalled this year, they promptly did a reshuffle to get her paired with no-hoper Tony Jacklin.

Brendan, Anton and James Jordan can be controversial, but woe betide any of the others that rock the boat.

I've always liked Aliona. Why this dislike for her by the Beeb?

Probably because she dares to tell them how she feels.

That's the nature of the beast unfortunately, but you must not also lose sight that there are prob some Pros that got sacked without saying anything controversial (like Hayley Holt, Katya Virshilas, Ian Waite, Jared Murillo, Matthew Cutler, Brian Fortuna etc). We just have to face it, whether a Pro has said something or not said a thing, they all have as much chance of being axed as the next dancer if the show sees them of no use anymore (hence maybe why Brendan, James and Anton are still there, because their use hasn't dried up yet). Even nice Pros that kept in line and didn't say anything publicaly got dumped on, so Aliona doesn't need to feel more hard done by than others. The only Pros that have left the show well have been those ones that left of their own accord. Also, it's prob likely that any female Pro this year that had got Tony would not have gone far, as he just wasn't good and not enjoyable to watch even in a so-bad-so-good-sense.

I liked Aliona, and if she is speaking out (presuming the paper is telling the entire truth about her comments) then good for her if that's what she felt she had to do. But she is not the first Pro to be dumped on badly, and she won't be the last, unfortunately.

She speaks up for Tony really well there.
She goes up in my estimation.

I think she is totally correct but I think everyone knew what was going to happen before the launch show started. As a fan of hers I was kind of hoping she would be back next year but I can't see that happening now. I love her as a dancer but I can't help feeling some of her comments are unwise. I do agree though others seem to get away with it more ,

Was a very silly thing to say ...I bet she regretted it...the judges are there to give constructive criticism. ..(apart from Craig that is)

Don't think that Len has any say on who is a pro on strictly & that was 2/3 years ago

Brendan, James and Anton have all been criticised as well by many over several things that have happened but never said anything about the show itself, the producers or other pro choreography. Aliona's problem is that she never had a bad partner the one time she did she got injured which wasn't her fault but she then didn't say goodbye to Johnny either on the show or ITT then criticised the show and Iveta saying that Johnny only went out because Iveta changed her choreography even though it was the producers who told Iveta to change it.

Aliona needs to learn that no-one and I mean no-one is bigger than the show and she didn't have to come back if she didn't want to.

I don't disagree with what she said but what is the sense in saying it unless she really doesn't want to come back. To me her decision to come back meant she wants to be on the show so why not use this opportunity to show how she can handle a non-contender and impress in the pro dances instead of talking to the press or complaining on twitter.

Other pros who I believe were better teachers, choreographers & dancers have been axed and as other have said they did nothing controversial at all.

Once again the Mirror says that Aliona is furious but she doesn't. They did the same when Aliona wasn't invited back.

Otherwise its pretty much a confirmation of what a lot of people thought was the situation.

It won't have increased Aliona's chances of returning so maybe she reckons the chances are low enough already.

Yes, isn't she.

Very unwise comments, and it's now a racing certainty that she will not be back next year. And she'll only be appearing in pro dances this year because of her contract (I bet that the BBC would dearly love to find a reason for her not to appear, as would any employer in a similar situation). But of course, she will still get paid for her later appearances .... she should count herself lucky in that she received a second bite of the cherry.

She has lost any respect that I had for her.

From memory, Johnny gave Aliona a lift to the show when they were both appearing on SCD at the end of series 10 and she was very complimentary about him in an article which was published. They got along well while she was training him.

Aliona had figured out that because he hadn't been in the public eye for many years, Johnny wouldn't have enough popularity with the public and it would take a while to get his dancing good enough to avoid the bottom 2.
She had completed the dance routine before she got injured and had added a section to show off Johnny's personality in the hope that that would get enough people to connect with him to vote him above the bottom 2.

Instead of training Johnny to get the maximum quality of the existing dancing and keeping the section to show his personality, the decision was made that Johnny had more chance of staying in if he danced at a lower quality of dancing but more of it.

Like Len giving Julien a frigging 7?

Hard to take him seriously sometimes...

What's class got to do with it? Truth hurts, she's only stating the obvious.

I would like to see more transparency at the BBC, fewer faceless men making unexplained decisions. I can understand why the worst pros are dropped in favour of better ones, but successful ones like Aliona and Brian Fortuna deserve better treatment.

I agree. Even the way they treat some of the judges is bad. Arlene Phillips IMO was a brilliant judge, dropped for being too old. But Len and Bruce are still on it.

Contrary to what Aliona thinks, and what we fans have a tendency to believe, I think fairness to the pros is very unlikely to be at the forefront of producers' minds when pairing up couples.

I think it's safe to say that if a female pro has an ankle related drama next year and is forced to drop out, the producers will be calling Katya and not Aliona. She's getting a bit of a reputation for being outspoken against TPTB (although good on her for speaking out about Tony's marking- I think his Waltz in particular was slightly undermarked)

The BBC was accused by some of doing that, something that they denied.

Quote:
“The BBC has been accused of treating older female stars badly before, when 59-year-old Moira Stuart was dropped from her Sunday morning news bulletin and Countryfile hosts Michaela Strachan, Charlotte Smith, Miriam O'Reilly and Juliet Morris, who are all in their 40s and 50s, were replaced with younger hosts.

Jay Hunt, the BBC1 controller, speaking at the launch of BBC1's autumn season today, denied Phillips had been dropped because of her age, saying that there were other older women on BBC1, such as 60-year-old Anne Robinson, who is returning to front Watchdog.

Hunt said the decision to drop Phillips had been made as part of an overall refresh for the dancing reality show, which will also see former Royal Ballet principal ballerina Darcey Bussell join as a guest judge for the final three weeks and the introduction of a new Friday launch show.”

She lives in the Us. I really, really hope that Dwts do not recruit her as one of our pros or even Troupe member but I won't be surprised if they do. I hope not !

It's ok for the boys (James and Brendan) to slag off the judges but not for the girls. It's a BBC thang.

TBF I thought the main reason was that she was going on all manner of shows and doing interviews badmouthing and briefing against John Sergeant while he was still in the show? He walked the same week. Len and Bruno were equally sharp with him on the panel (the main reason the 'judging' now is so innocuous and bland) but I don't think they were pouring public bile outside of it.

Erin and Kristina have slagged the judges off, and those are just the two I remember.

Honestly the near obsession with that one throwaway comment she made on It Takes Two is a thing only on this forum.
