Admin Edit: This thread is a continuation of Ratings Thread
Tom Brokaw stopped presenting NBC Nightly News in 2004. He now just does ad hoc work for them (though he is presenting Meet The Press on a temporary basis for about 6 months after the death of Tim Russert). He also of course was the moderator for last night's debate.

Brian Williams now presents NBC Nightly News and he is much younger than Charles Gibson.
That's what I meant. Doesn't Brokaw do the election coverage for NBC? Even the last elder statesman of news (Dan Rather now retired and the great Peter Jennings dead), isn't much of a draw for the election coverage. People instead go to ABC in America the same way people gravitate to BBC News in this country when it goes head to head with ITV News.

Anyone know the ratings for Richard & Judy's new show? Caught it last night (despite never having heard of Watch) and it was actually OK......
I forgot to let you know about this one. Broadcast reported 100,000 with another 43,000 watching it on the +1 channel. The set and titles are horrific!!

100,000 watch Richard and Judy

A strong night for FIVE last night with everything comfortably over the 1 million mark. At least Paul Merton has become a success, unlike Unbreakable.

I'm disappointed that Greatest Cities didn't do well because imo it was one of the best fatual programmes that ITV1 have produced in a long while and I really it. Though it was given a very poor slot imo and I bet even the similar Stephen Fry show will do better even up against TOF!

On another note, surprisingly ITV haven't pulled Natural Born Sellers tonight, so expect ITV's lowest ever 9pm audience tonight...

Something's just hit me. Friday night TV. It's in need of a music show in primetime.

Look how well ITV did when they followed BBC1 suit with the half an hour doubles at 9pm. I'm thinking of a new show, 'Live at the South Bank', which can be a more 'up market' replacement for Top of the Pops with some of the best acts in the charts.

As we're moving from hip-hop to indie/rock in the UK, I feel it will start to pick up a substantial audience, and maybe there should be one classic act near the end to get older viewers watching. Now I know younger viewers might shy away from Friday night television at first, but it does take a while to catch on for these viewers.

Therefore, 'Live at the South Bank' (on either ITV or Channel 4) should be a family show, as family shows work best on Friday nights (for obvious reasons). Look how Benidorm performed, but what it does ultimately is frees up a lot of ITV's or Channel 4's schedule.

Presenters: Robbie Williams & Jonathan Wilkes would be the perfect double act, and a great way to start off a new brand, with such a familiar face. It could also be the comeback for Robbie.

However, if we look at it more realistically, Jools Holland and Alexa Chung/Myleene Klass would be good.

Anyone think this could be the revitalised idea for a new 'Top of the Pop's type return. Remember, this week there was a call for a return in primetime music.

Yes, I think the scehdules need a primetime chart music show of some description.
I suppose we all have our ideas of who should present it, I'd agree with someone like Mylene or maybe Holly Willougby. For a more satirical foil you could have Simon Amstell as well.
The more I think of it the more I like a Holly/Simon pairing as co-presenters.
Good idea PjMillar!

Silent Witness is a show that has evolved well over time. Amanda Burton moving on allowed them to up-date the series. Too often shows can get stuck in a rut.
I prefer it without her. The series used to revolve around her character as the character moved from city to city, but now it's focussed on one location with more characters, and is all the better for it.

Good grief!! The problem is that it goes out at the wrong time. 5.00pm is the right time for this type of show. I know the repeats are there anyway but the show is better suited to teatime than primetime.

As for this music show, a good idea but some terrible presenter pairings. Robbie Williams and Jonathan 'Robbie's my mate but I don't like to mention it even though I do mention it regularly' Wilkes. Dear God no!! Holly Willoughby is all t!ts and no talent. She has a BAFTA for Best Childrens Presenter!! A FRIGGIN BAFTA!! How? Most presenters nowadays have zero personality. The only way this show would be watchable would be with Alex Zane and Simon Amstell hosting.

Richard and Judy's New Position was down to 53,000 last night, 67,000 including +1. If you include all repeats, the first show got 143,000.

Watch must be among the worst channels ever. What idiot thought it would be a good idea to put a daytime show (on its last legs) into primetime as the only original show to launch the channel? And who did the marketing? The R&J advert is hideous and we get told nothing about the channel apart from them.

With regard to X Factor, it is worth remembering that usually after the second show, they cut from two hours to one and a half which might cure some of the scheduling woes.

The 143,000 doesn't include yesterdays 5pm showing (6pm on 4+1 obviously) as the original showing got 100,000 and +1 managed 43,000. The slot average for UKTV Gold at 8pm is 47,000 so its still performing reasonably well, especially if the +1 channel is out performing what the aim for the main channel is.

I don't actually like the show, but I'll defend it when necessary. Its not as bad as it seems.

Watch might be doing better if it was on Freeview. Unfortunately UKTV is still a joint-venture between BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media, and obviously the latter has a vested interest in pay TV, so despite the success of Dave were dead set against it being on Freeview.

Space is scarce as it is but a new slot has just come up for sale. ITV2-1*5+3/6 anybody?

Too true. Amanda Burton's departure has renewed my interest, which is why I only watch episodes from S8 Eps 2 onwards.

Absolutely right. All I knew about Watch was that they were on it, nothing about what sort of programmes they'd be showing.

ABC is tanking on Wednesdays. Very surprising that Private Practice is doing this badly. It looks like Kate Walsh will be back on Grey's Anatomy soon. Bones is doing very well on it's new day.

Five have a good thing going on Wednesday nights with this line up. Interesting that the new series of Ice Road Truckers starts tonight on the History Channel, so it should be on five pretty soon.

20,000 posts. Hhmmmm.... that reminds me:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/a....php?f=8&a=292

I think we should create a new thread "Ratings Thread - Part II" we've already got 20,000 posts, so I think it's worth creating Part II, thus leaving this bad boy behind.

Random and off topic again I apologise, but what is it with BBC/ITV Picture Publicity? I'm in the process of setting up a TV related website which has been an ongoing project that went on the backburner for months - anyway, they are so bloody awkward it's unbelievable. ITV didn't even respond to my application, even to acknowledge they had received it. The BBC on the other hand didn't seem very impressed with the site so far and told me to apply again when the website was complete.

There's one small problem with that... how am I supposed to create and maintain a website about TV without any pictures? LOL. Text only websites simply don't cut the mustard, or indeed generate any hits.

A fun little project for me in my spare time has become a total non starter for this reason.
