Given that Bruce is a tv legend and a ratings god since the sixties there might be a few who think your being a touch harsh!

To be honest I think SCD feels cheaper then Dancing On Ice. Have you seen the hard back chairs the judges sit on? And they use paddles while Dancing On Ice use electronic scoring. The whole set is very TV-ish. Looks glitzy, but is really a flatpack from IKEA.
And before you say anything I love SCD. ![]() I quite like the classic look about it though, it looks really cosy. There were rumuors they were going to the Eurovision Dance Contest studio at the end of last yr. The DOI studio reminds me of a club I used to go to in Watford. |

Dancing on Ice is like a visit to TGI Fridays. Not that I've frequented either...

On the subject of Strictly, News at Ten gave it some free publicity tonight as John's controversial success on the show was the 'and finally' item.

No doubt, but the whole set-up, ambience and production values of SCD simply ooze quality. Like dinner at the Ritz.

- apart from Lewis, and 2 bought-in sporting events, there's little real quality in ITV's top shows, it's all lowest-common denominator tat. Contrast with the quality and middle-brow programming in BBC1's top 10, EastEnders aside. ITV1 is clearly the Asda to BBC1's Sainsbury's.
Are you perhaps equating "high brow" with targeted at old people? I'm looking at the BBC top 10, and on the basis that Lewis is the only "real quality" show in the ITV top 10, then I'm only seeing New Tricks and Doctor Who as equal to it. A sexed up Antiques Roadshow, celebrity driven reality show, charity telethon, business RTV show masquerading as "high brow" factual programming and a "rip-off" soap are not screaming "high brow" to me. On the SCD vs DOI debate, DOI can't really attempt to go for cosy and intimate because the nature of the ice skating requires a considerably larger performance area. |

But SCD, Antiques Roadshow, The Apprentice etc probably appeal to a more upmarket audience than IACGMOH, BGT, DOI etc. (In terms of ABC 1 viewers).
But appealing to ABC1 viewers doesn't make a "high brow" programme. It gets very muddled when you actually look at raw numbers. More ABC1 viewers watch Big Brother than watch Newsnight... is Big Brother therefore more "high brow" than Newsnight?! |

Last night's show was a big attraction for both upmarket and younger viewers. ABC1 viewers made up 44% of the show's audience while those aged between 16 and 34 accounted for 26% of those watching the show.

- the best may still be to come for BBC1 - it should get 12m or so for SCD. EE might get 12-13m for its Christmas Day episode. Doctor Who's Xmas showing should see its ratings increase (unless it's actually called "Doctor Who: The Next Doctor", in which case BARB will presumably include Doctor Who twice...? ). Wallace & Gromit's new adventure should get 10m. The Royle Family might get 10m too on Christmas Day. The Royal Variety will rate well, depending what day it is shown. Jonathan Creek could get 9m. CIN might just get to 10m in the officials (but I doubt it). What else has ITV got to look forward to in 2008, other than TXF possibly bettering its 11.65m? |

Is there any way of finding out what individual shows on Setanta are drawing? I'm interested in finding out how some of the football matches and live UFC shows are doing.

Why do the DS ratings round-up writers think the audience numbers for "Location, Location" is the headline for last night?

I hope we get the News at Ten ratings reported by somebody this week... will be interesting to see how much its audience increases now that IAC is on.

What does everyone think the return of Celebrity Big Brother will get this January?
I'm hopeing the fact that it's been off air for 2 years now and the fact that the last series attracted so much interest because of the race row will help it attract 6 million for the launch and 4 million for the highlights, like it's parent show used to get in the old days. But the nation's contempt for the show in recent years will probably insure that it only recieves a small boost of a a few hundred thousand viewers, if that. |
