Since when has age equated to quality? Have you seen how much he's paid aswell? It really streches the term Dependant on Experience.

And before you say anything I love SCD.”

And Bruno's leg hangs out the end of the desk!

I quite like the classic look about it though, it looks really cosy. There were rumuors they were going to the Eurovision Dance Contest studio at the end of last yr. The DOI studio reminds me of a club I used to go to in Watford.

No doubt, but the whole set-up, ambience and production values of SCD simply ooze quality. Like dinner at the Ritz.

Dancing on Ice is like a visit to TGI Fridays.

Not that I've frequented either...

On the subject of Strictly, News at Ten gave it some free publicity tonight as John's controversial success on the show was the 'and finally' item.

It is a good look. And Dancing On Ice is very modern in comparison. But I think they work well for their perspective shows.

Though judging fromt the competition so far there is a severe risk of food poisonig.

Nope, I disagree. I think Dancing On Ice is the Ritz as well...it's just got a special room for sadists.

You just side with the BBC. No surprise there.

Actually, it's more like US restaurant chain Hooters: www.hooters.com

Ah, now I'm going to be thinking about Holly Willoughby's breasts for the next couple of hours...

You'll really don't need much of an imagination for them.

I'm never a big fan of the whole sneering debate about "high brow" productions. But this was just too much for me to pass up on!

Are you perhaps equating "high brow" with targeted at old people? I'm looking at the BBC top 10, and on the basis that Lewis is the only "real quality" show in the ITV top 10, then I'm only seeing New Tricks and Doctor Who as equal to it. A sexed up Antiques Roadshow, celebrity driven reality show, charity telethon, business RTV show masquerading as "high brow" factual programming and a "rip-off" soap are not screaming "high brow" to me.

On the SCD vs DOI debate, DOI can't really attempt to go for cosy and intimate because the nature of the ice skating requires a considerably larger performance area.

But SCD, Antiques Roadshow, The Apprentice etc probably appeal to a more upmarket audience than IACGMOH, BGT, DOI etc. (In terms of ABC 1 viewers).

I expect they do, though they would probably get less on ITV1. I have little doubt that The One and Only was getting similar ABC1 ratings to Channel 4 News! Even A Touch of Frost was reported recently as having 38% ABC1's, which is about the same as XF gets and a fair bit lower than SCD.

But appealing to ABC1 viewers doesn't make a "high brow" programme. It gets very muddled when you actually look at raw numbers. More ABC1 viewers watch Big Brother than watch Newsnight... is Big Brother therefore more "high brow" than Newsnight?!

Funny you should say that. Broadcast had this to say about the debut of this year's I'm A Celebrity.

Quote:
“Last night's show was a big attraction for both upmarket and younger viewers. ABC1 viewers made up 44% of the show's audience while those aged between 16 and 34 accounted for 26% of those watching the show.”

Ten

Seems more than it was getting in the UK, to be fair.

I suppose that was for the £1m discovery? That's absolutely astounding. I think AR is very much like Heartbeat/The Royal, though. It depends on the opposition and the lead in/run on for it's success. I can't believe the programme'll sustain that once Strictly Come Dancing finishes, and ITV bring back Dancing On Ice.

Wallace & Gromit's new adventure should get 10m. The Royle Family might get 10m too on Christmas Day. The Royal Variety will rate well, depending what day it is shown. Jonathan Creek could get 9m. CIN might just get to 10m in the officials (but I doubt it). What else has ITV got to look forward to in 2008, other than TXF possibly bettering its 11.65m?”

That may be underestimating it actually. Last year at Xmas EE had 14.38 million and DW had 13.31M, and methinks it's likely they'll get similar figures this year.

Is there any way of finding out what individual shows on Setanta are drawing? I'm interested in finding out how some of the football matches and live UFC shows are doing.

Why do the DS ratings round-up writers think the audience numbers for "Location, Location" is the headline for last night?

I hope we get the News at Ten ratings reported by somebody this week... will be interesting to see how much its audience increases now that IAC is on.

Contact DS and ask them to report the News ratings at 10pm. They've started to report the Neighbours ratings after someone contacted them. Though, it might just be coincidental.

It might get a bit boring making a soap or I'm A Celebrity the main story all the time just because they get the highest ratings of the evening? Just a suggestion. But having said that I thought Antiques Roadshow was the biggest story on Sunday and was surprised it didn't get the banner headline.

What does everyone think the return of Celebrity Big Brother will get this January?

I'm hopeing the fact that it's been off air for 2 years now and the fact that the last series attracted so much interest because of the race row will help it attract 6 million for the launch and 4 million for the highlights, like it's parent show used to get in the old days.

But the nation's contempt for the show in recent years will probably insure that it only recieves a small boost of a a few hundred thousand viewers, if that.
