What does everyone think the return of Celebrity Big Brother will get this January?

I'm hopeing the fact that it's been off air for 2 years now and the fact that the last series attracted so much interest because of the race row will help it attract 6 million for the launch and 4 million for the highlights, like it's parent show used to get in the old days.

But the nation's contempt for the show in recent years will probably insure that it only recieves a small boost of a a few hundred thousand viewers, if that.
I think it will manage 5.5m for its launch in overnights and the highlights shows will get in the high 3m's. With some of the names rumoured to be going in, and that CBB attracts a slightly different audience than the summer series, I think its going to do very well. Although I wasn't keen on the idea at the time, resting it was the best thing they ever did for the brand.

Is that the total audience across the day or just the 8.00pm slot. I dont watch but didnt watch their C4 either. It was never going to work doing a day-time show in prime-time. Would have thought more folks would watch the repeat at 5.00pm next day.

Do we have the ratings for the 5pm repeat?

I think the best slot for it would be at 6pm teatime with a repeat at 1:30 in the afternoon.

The main slot as an early teatime show, following Alan Tichmarsh at 4 and Paul O'Grady at 5.

The repeat slot as a late lunchtime show, following the last half hour of this morning at 12 and loose Women at 12:30.

Either that or make it a bit more cheeky, up the guest budget and move it to a later slot as digital's answer to the Jonathan Ross show.

UKTV will probably leave it as it is though and just not sign a new contract.

Quite a bit up on last year.

I hope ITV's stupid decision to take it off air a few times wont affect its ratings too much.

Strong night for all apart from FIVE. Spooks held up well against IAC, but IAC did well to stay above the 8m mark and boost NaT considerably. The soaps all seem quite low, particuarly Emmerdale & Corrie as Watchdog continues to increase. Home & Away also seems very low-since the departure of many key characters the show has decreased in ratings on FIVE by about 0.3m and FIVER by about 0.2m on average.

According to my Sky - first shown at 8.00pm & then repeated next day 8.00am / 5.00pm. Agree that your timings seem to make more sense but it is the fact that anyone thought this could compete with prime-time that amazes me.

Quite a strong rating for Watchdog considering it was up against Coronation Street

I can only speak personally but I.ve given up with soaps. Never thought I'd do it completely. Have moved away from certain ones over the years as they go into doldrums but now it is every single one. Just think there is total fatigue having to maintain so many episodes. It all seems to have a feel of a treadmill about it. It is interesting how feel good / have a laugh shows are now becoming more popular.

Unbreakable is really dragging the share down for Five. and thankfully it ends next week though the share was up compared to last week. The 1960s documentary will hopefully do better for them.

There is a documentary coming up on Five called 'Ant & Dec: Where Did It All Go Right?' which should do fairly well and similarly to the Russell & Ross documentary. Nice set of ratings last night, The Gadget Show saw a 0.2m-0.3m rise on its usual ratings. Richard & Judy are faring well.

ITV1's Monday primetime share increases, but BBC One's hardly falls.

I'm a Celeb improves dramatically on last Monday's 9pm offering, but Spooks is hardly affected.

Just goes to show ITV1's problems are not down to BBC One's success. ITV1's problems are due to the increase in the number of commercial rivals, and some disctinctly lacklustre programming on ITV1 in key slots over the course of the year, in recent years.

So, next time ITV1 has a bad (night/day/week/month/year/decade*) it would be nice if people didn't try to blame the BBC.

I'm really glad Spooks held up well against IAC. I feared that the rating for the show would end up decreasing further to the 4.0 - 4.5 million mark (because of IAC, the chance to watch first look on BBC3, using Iplayer), but it's good that it is staying consistent and maintaining its audience, despite the strong competition from IAC.

IAC is well up on last year which I find rather surprising, as I thought viewers may have found the format a tad repetitive now and it would have suffered a decrease in viewers like Big Brother did but the show did well staying over the 8 million mark and still proves to be a winning formula for ITV primetime.

Looking at the breakdown, Hole In The Wall seemed to be getting 4-5 million on Saturday - am I correct? as I really thought it was performing worse than that

IAC will benefit from the shorter shows and the odd night off. Its better not to over expose the show. I think that will help prolong its life and good ratings

ITV1

I'm rather impressed with that News at Ten figure. Err, the ITV version I mean. With Mark Austin at the helm and a healthy IAC lead-in it seems to be gaining much-needed momentum.

A lead of just over 1m for BBC News is acceptable actually given the usual gap, so they'll be more than happy with that. Now for the hard part; consistently getting over 3m each night for the next few weeks while IAC is on. If ITV News can achieve that, then ITV News at Ten is back in business!

Can someone, if possible, answer this question which has been bugging me for while.

Why did the BBC rename its 10pm news bulletin from Ten O'Clock News to News At Ten? What did they think they were going to get out of it?

We also have Sky News at Ten of course, which was renamed to that when the original ITN News at Ten was scrapped by ITV.
