Yes, somewhat. Unless of course you mean ITV News when you talk about being a news junkie.

Back on topic, has tonight's episode of SCD been shorted due to Seargent? It's only one hour, 5 minutes long.

I'd imagine it would be on for the same length of time as originally planned but they might just pad out the show a bit more.

I notice that Broadcast have split up Chlidren in Need in their top 70 programmes of the week.
CIN comes in 1st and 2nd for w/e 16/11/08 with ratings of 11.20 and 10.65 million respectively. This is for times quoted as 21.00 and 20.00. It also comes in 14th, 19th, and 30th for other timeslots.
I wonder if this stands in the year end charts or whether the overall average is used? Not and easy thing to quantify.

The official rating for CIN isn't released until Wednesday. I imagine there will be two averages: (19:00-22:00 and 22:30-02:00)

There was a 5% rise in ratings between 2002-2003 for some reason. But then between 2004-2006 there was a yearly 11% decline. This period is often regarded as some of the worst in EE's history. 2007 was a good year, only seeing a 3% loss. The second half of 2007 was particularly good, with the ratings higher in this period than the same time in 2006.

2008 started very well, with Q1 seeing a very small decline. Q2 saw a rise in ratings compared to the previous year, meaning that by the mid-point of this year EE was averaging higher than last year. However, Q3 and Q4 have been relatively poor. Q3 saw a 12% decline; EE's summer ratings were not good to put it frank. Q4 has so far seen a pretty big decline, although it's still not finished yet, so the decline will most likely narrow. Taking the Emmerdale clashes into account, this year's decline is to be expected.

Like EastEnders, Coronation Street saw a big rise between 2002-2003. I think the 2003 rise must have been because of the Rchard Hillman storyline, which gripped the country. Then between 2004-2006, there was a yearly 9% decline. I thought Corrie was good during these years? 2007 was a very good year in terms of ratings, with hardly a drop (-1%).

This year has seen about a 6% drop from last year - Q1 was very good, with barely a drop. It's in Q3 and Q4 where the drops have been about 7%.

Oooh, wierd split thread!

Its strange not seeing Mitch123 up there anymore. I've no idea who he is and don't see him post anymore, but he kicked off a bloody good thread!

Back on topic: some interesting figures and graphs for the soaps. Corrie had a very strong last couple of years really - maintaining an audience as EastEnders carried on the decline. Thats been reversed since the middle of 2007 with EastEnders fall slowing somewhat and Corrie starting to go down.

I notice The X Factor has finished about 10 minutes early - won't do its rating any favours. There will be a big time-shift for the official rating.

Beat you to it.

Rather stupid IMO..... unless they know IAC is going to run over the hour, so it'll start at 20:52 (approx) and finish at 21:56.

EDIT: They've done that on purpose, several people are hopping from XF thread to IAC thread!

EDIT 2: 20:53 and it's starting!

And they also slotted in one extra ad break. They usually have an ad break after every 2 acts (apart from start and end) but tonight they had one before JLS and one after right in the middle of the show. Timed poorly as well, just when the ratings were peaking last week.

I don't understand the theory behind finishing the show 9 minutes early. Xtra Factor started 8 minutes before its scheduled start, so it was planned. Why not just give the right start and end times?

Why did they have a 90 minute show, when last week's (with one extra act) was 75 minutes? What a stupid thing to do!

I have no idea. It's not as though the producers ran under, it appears they ran to time. But for whatever reason, ITV have chosen to schedule the show in this peculiar manner.

Actually that sounds about right to me. Commercial channels would love ad breaks when an audience is close to peak.

It'll be interesting to see if The X Factor beats SCD tonight, what with the time shift and the Sargeant issue.

The overnight for the Sunday omnibus for Little Dorrit on 16/11/08 had 3.85 million from 6.15. Overall 7 to 8 million seem to be watching over the week so thats got to be considered success in this day and age.
Maybe LD would have been a candidate against IAC on Sundays-as an hour long once only show.

Well, good for ITV's bank balance I suppose... but bad for X Factor's ratings!

Strictly will surely win tonight on both share and audience. Even I dropped in tonight and John had, as expected, been held to the end of the show. And Len Goodman was yelling down the table at Craig... all very dramatic!

X Factor won't be helped by the ridiculous adverts/programming ratio. Although the results should be a bit better. Granted, the two guest performances were just filler, but better than adverts and the results show actually ran on time for the first time this series!

I think XF results will come in just under 10m and might actually be higher than the main show. Strictly ought to comfortably pass 10 million.

Are you setting Strictly up for a fall though?

Controversy doesent always equate to high ratings. The best examples I can think of was TXF last year when Sharon walked off, the next week the ratings were uncharacteristically low.

I think X Factor will beat Strictly comfortably.

It's clearly benefitted most from BBC1 moving SCD earlier and ITV moving X Factor later.

Any increase in SCD's audience will only help X Factor.
