I should have added #648 in my original post as that airs on Monday 22nd December - http://www.itv.com/PressCentre/TheBi...2/default.html
Oh fair enough. That's not really possible then.

I don't blame them moving it to 9. I wonder whether they might be able to achieve a permanent move there and sort out two nine o'clock slots each week.

So all we can hope for is they air 650 and 651 over the Monday and Tuesday again (the 29th and 30th) and have four The Bill's on the trot. They could have 654 on the Friday, I suppose, and have a storyline spanning the week.

I just fear for ITV1 if they think the best thing for Christmas Day is an episode of The Bill.

Boxing Day I can just about understand, but not Christmas Day.

I cant believe ITV would air three hours of soap on Christmas Day

Thats pathetic. I'd rather the 1993 schedule...

I know they want to put their best highlights before Christmas to rake in the advertising money but theres also a thing called publicity - and with that line up they're going to get a roasting. And rightly so.
I think The Bill will get around 4m, maybe just under. Does anyone have last year's ratings for a comparison - would that be an improvement on 2007?

Am I in the minority thinking that ITV have "turned it around" in the past few month and a half, after what has been a "medicore" 2008?
If ITV1 can't do good business in the run up to Xmas, then they would be in real trouble!

Looking at the BARB listings for the most recent week (anyone prefer the new layout?), ITV1 still has the same 'feel' to it, that of a number of big popular shows, but a rapid viewing decline after that:

Code:
........Top, #10, #20, #30
BBC1: 10.14, 5.87, 5.10, 4.66
ITV1: 11.28, 6.72, 5.54, 3.61
Diff: +1.14, +0.85, +0.34,-1.05

It seems Brittania High has been moved to Saturday at 4.45 to accomodate The Alan Titchmarsh Christmas Show, on the 21st at 7pm. Why are they moving this daytime show into that slot?

OK, it's official, ITV have given up on Xmas!
(I might create a new thread to accomadate Xmas Schedule stuff).

Evidently, the ITV1 schedule for Sun 21/12 is to be:

19.00- The AT Show Christmas Special
20.00- The Royal
21.00- Clash of the Santas

Ep. No 648 - Monday 22nd December - 21:00 to 22:00
Ep. No 649 - Tuesday 23rd December - 21:00 to 22:00
Ep. No 650 - ?? (Xmas Eve - 21:00 to 22:00???)
Ep. No 651 - ?? (Xmas Day - 21:00 to 22:00???)
Ep. No 652 - New Years Eve - 20:00 to 21:00
Ep. No 653 - New Years Day - 20:00 to 21:00

None of them are in a sandwich. I must admit though - if it gets promoted well - it could very easily end up in the 6m range.
Not in a sandwich yet, because the schedules aren't finalised. ITV and BBC are still trying to mislead each other with wrong schedules.

There's no confirmation about the position of Episode 649 though, is there? On the press release there's a leap between Episode 648 and Episode 652.

Which makes me wonder...you don't think they're going to hold a Christmas trilogy? Christmas Eve (it's usual slot on Wednesday's?), Christmas Day (maybe in the soap sandwich as suggested) and Boxing Day?

Check out the new Barb website... it's really good in my opinion. They have many more channel's officials ratings on the 'Top 10' page, including BBCHD, C4+1 at last.

ITV have been airing episodes of The Bill out of their numerical order for some time now. The numerical order means nothing to transmission anyway.

Episodes 650 and 651 will probably air as standalone episodes next year.

Thanks. Wonder why it wasn't listed in the Episode bar for Episode 248.

So The Bill may not even pop up after the 23rd???

ITV1 do know how to make life interesting don't they?

There won't be an episode of The Bill on Christmas Day. I really doubt they'd do that. ITV could try and hurt the BBC with a schedule like this though:

6.00pm Harry Hill's Christmas TV Burp
6.45pm Emmerdale
7.45pm Coronation Street
8.15pm Britain's Got Talent Christmas Special
9.30pm Coronation Street
10.00pm Midsomer Murders: Days of Misrule
12.00am News

It wouldn't win, but it would do considerably better I daresay, with BGT and a Corrie sandwich. ITV should try entertainment like BGT on Christmas Day, it's what they do best I reckon.

I think that would work really well, It won’t beat BBC1 but they will get decent figures through out! I posted what I think ITV1 should do on Christmas day in the Christmas TV thread earlier -

3:00 The Queens Speech
3:10 Harry Potter
5:00 Harry Hill's Christmas TV Burps
5:30 Dancing on Ice at Christmas
7:00 Emmerdale
7:30 Coronation Street
8:30 - 10:30 Midsummer Murders

No, no, no, no, no.

http://www.itv.com/PressCentre/TheBi...2/default.html

Ep 649 - Tuesday 23rd - Is Part 3 of a four part thing.
Ep 650 - would be the final part of the four part thing.

So 651 could be a standalone?

650 could be on Christmas Eve in the usual slot (unless we know Christmas Eve's schedule already, I'm not up on navigating around the Press Releases. )

I think Polonius' schedule would do better than having The Bill there TBH. Bar Midsomer Murders finishing a bit late - 11 o'clock is alright for a finish, but midnight isn't IMO.

Perhaps a bit early for Emmerdale, but it's increasingly woeful.

Thanks.

Well, I think The Bill would do better than Harry Hill. Which isn't saying much.

5.30pm Harry Hill's Christmas TV Burp
5.45pm Emmerdale
6.45pm Coronation Street
7.15pm Britain's Got Talent Christmas Special
8.30pm Coronation Street
9.00pm Midsomer Murders: Days of Misrule
11.00am News

Very early for Emmerdale, and why's Harry Hill been cut down to just 15 minutes? I know it struggled last year but that's a bit extreme.

I'd forget about airing Harry Hill Christmas Day - leave it for Boxing Day, and try something like this:

3.00 The Queen
3.10 Pantomime
4.45 Carols at Christmas
5.45 News
6.00 Celebrity Who Wants to Be A Millionnaire?
7.00 Christmas Night Takeaway
8.00 Emmerdale
8.30 Coronation Street
9.00 Britain's Got Talent Special
10.30 News

The afternoon is covered by something for the family and something very Christmassy - a good alternative to the film. Not saying it's beat BBC's offering, but would do better than the Queen documentary they had last year.

Early evening is risky admittedly, but I think Takeaway would do ok considering it's a special one off. Who Wants to Be A Millionnaire is generally consistent, and should do ok in the early slot. Emmerdale and Coronation Street hold the 8 o'clock hour (and Emmerdale is positioned better than last year where it was slotted in early evening) but having only half hour episodes each means the whole schedule isn't swamped in soaps.

Of course you could replace BGT Special with Midsomer Murders if you wish.

Bill Ward was contracted for four episodes; he appears in "Santa's Little Helper" and the three parts to "Too Hot To Handle". I guess I'm probably wrong, but that was my understanding.

They showed World Idol on Christmas Day 2003 and it did bugger all - that said, it was opposite Only Fools. Also, it was crap.

I think, given they've shown the likes of Doc Martin and The Booze Cruise on Christmas Night in recent years, they might put Clash Of The Santas on there, as it should pull in a decent enough audience without costing too much.

Thats an Idea! I remember a few years ago when ITV1 showed the first of these Green and Benton Comedy/Drama things, though not christmas day, I think a little before .. but it pulled in almost 10m if I remember?

I know ITV are bad at scheduling, but I don't think even they would put the weekend news on on a Thursday.

Sorry - seriously, I like that schedule, except I think the main show needs to finish at 11 at the latest. I think ifit goes on any later, then people'll start travelling home before it finishes. I'm tempted to say risk a half hour Corrie to have Midsomer starting at 9.

Alternatively, cut out Millionnaire, and have both soaps at an hour length.
