Celebrity Travel shows are in vogue at the moment with two already debuting and a third debuting on Sunday. ITV have a couple coming in 2009 which sound quite interesting. I enjoyed World's Greatest Cities and while ratings were disapointing, I hope there will be a second further series after these three episodes.
Does anyone think that Five has become more male skewed with the rebrand as most of their commissions and acquisations like Unbreakable, Axe Men, Nature Shock etc seemed aimed at men rather than a wider selection of demographics. |

Yes i kinda of agree with most of what you've all said but i do see a drop in quality with a lot shows like neighbours and eastenders. Same with sky one!! I was looking at sky one, there line up from the mid 90's was much better.

As well as more choice in TV terms I suppose there is more choice in other entertainments, like the internet.
As I understand it the average number of people watching TV each day is about 26million in total across ALL channels. That seems like a very small number compared to the past. In the past I vaguely recall any two shows on at the same time (BBC1 ITV) would often get 16million each, and a programme on BBC2 would also bring in, say, 6million. So fewer people are watching and the rise of trash TV on the main channels has pushed people to do other things more often, things like game consoles or going out or a sing-a-long around the piano! |

Well really Neighbours gets 3m over all its showings, but its because there are more tv channels, the rise of the internet, video games, etc. People have better things to be doing.
I'm sure book reading saw a similar decline with the rise of the radio and radio with the rise of the TV. Its often commented on here about the BBC's share falling, but considering it lost Neghbours its afternoon daytime share has been substancially reduced and as such that impacts on the all day share. Plus remember ITV shows no Children's programming, the BBC shows 2 hours each day (where the share is usually around 5%), and still manages to beat ITV most of the time - an astonishing fact. |

Goodbye Pushing Daisies!
![]() ![]() With November sweeps coming up, it will be interesting to see if ABC keep Wednesday nights the same. Private Practice is the only one pulling barely acceptable numbers. CBS seem to be off to a roaring start, with Tuesday nights looking solid. The Mentalist seems to be the only new big hit so far this season. And NCIS and CSI:NY are up on last year. I'm quite surprised at this, as I would have thought "light and fluffy" would be the order of the day in tough times. ABC on the other hand has an obvious weakness on Wednesdays and doesn't seem to have any new hits. Also, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives and Greys Anatomy seem to be down a bit. A big battle tonight as Life On Mars launches against CBS' new Jerry Bruckheimer show, Eleventh Hour. FOX... well, nobody takes much notice of them until January. They only broadcast for 2 hours a night and for 4 months a year. ![]() But everyone can look at NBC to cheer themselves up. With America's Got Talent off the air they really don't have much at all. |

Its ironic that when on the BBC it achieved around 5 million most days - it definatley has dropped & is no longer the ratings powerhouse it once was. Now it regularly gets well beaten by Doctors in its lunchtime slot, a far call from 2007 when it was well above the Doctors average, and its 40% share of the audience.

It's a shame that both Dirty Sexy Money and Pushing Daisies are getting low ratings as i love both shows! It would be a shame if they did get the axe but it wouldnt suprise me at all.

I see Channel 4 have been commissioning from the original makers of their big summer hit, The Secret Millionaire... and that would be a certain Stephen Lambert. (The guy that quit RDF after "Crowngate" which cost Peter Fincham his job at BBC1).
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/commis...er_for_c4.html In addition to this, they have commissioned an 8x60' series from Studio Lambert called "Ultimate Gap Year" which follows gap year students as they undertake gap year adventures. Lambert might not be expecting any commissions from Peter Fincham at ITV any time soon, but C4 seem happy to do business. |

That's what I meant. Doesn't Brokaw do the election coverage for NBC? Even the last elder statesman of news (Dan Rather now retired and the great Peter Jennings dead), isn't much of a draw for the election coverage. People instead go to ABC in America the same way people gravitate to BBC News in this country when it goes head to head with ITV News.
However Tom Brokaw is appearing regularly in the "expert" role - eg on Nightly News before the first Presidential debate Williams asked Brokaw how he thought it would go etc. On Election Night I expect the same - ie Williams hosting with Brokaw there as the expert. Additionally Brokaw is hosting Meet The Press for 6 months following Tim Russert's death up to the election. In a way, Brokaw is just filling the old Russert role on the news coverage - Russert was always the expert alongside the anchor and Brokaw is just doing this role through the election. |

Not sure if the final schedules for next weekend have been posted, but I'll do it anyway...
Saturday 18th Oct BBC1 5.05 BBC News, Weather 5.25 Hole in the Wall 5.55 Merlin 6.40 Strictly Come Dancing 8.10 National Lottery: Who Dares Wins 9.00 Casualty 9.50 BBC News 10.00 Little Britain USA 10.30 Match of the Day ITV1 5.40 ITV News 5.55 Totally You've Been Framed 6.55 NEW: Harry Hill's TV Burp 7.25 The X Factor 9.25 All Star Family Fortunes 10.10 The X Factor Results 10.55 ITV News Sunday 19th Oct BBC1 6.10 Ian Fleming: Where Bond Began 7.10 Antiques Roadshow 8.10 Strictly Come Dancing: Results 9.00 Steven Fry in America 10.00 BBC News ITV1 2.55 F1: Chinese Grand Prix 6.00 ITV News 6.30 You've Been Framed 7.00 Best Ever Worse Dance Moments (with Justin Lee Collins) 8.00 Heartbeat 9.00 A Touch of Frost 11.00 ITV News BBC - All pretty normal - not much to talk about. ITV - I think they are really over doing You've Been Framed - this show has been stretched to breaking point now with all manner of repeats and re-hashes. Best Ever Worse Dance Moments seems out of place. Looking increasingly likely that Britannia High will take Sundays at 7pm. Note: ITV1 has Man Utd v Celtic on Tues 21st, which I think will be a big winner for them. |

That schedule doesn't work for ITV, IMO. X Factor and SCD clashing for 45 minutes is bad enough, but SCD takes a huge head start so it will have a huge advantage. They either clash minimally or they do the "battle" properly. And Harry Hill starts after SCD as well plus XF will be finishing pretty late on the new 45 minute format.
I'd change to: SATURDAY 6pm - Harry Hill's TV Burp 6.30pm - The X Factor 8.30pm - Britannia High 9.30pm - X Factor Results I think it is quite possible that BBC1 have chosen the wrong year to go on the offensive against XF. Give it a head start and it might beat SCD. It will certainly knock a fair number off the average. And the combination of Harry Hill and XF against Merlin should push that down as well. Then they give Britannia High a wonderful lead in and it only has to content with another tedious lottery show. Put All Star Family Fortunes on Sundays at 7.15pm and use You've Been Framed to fill the gaps on Sundays. |

Another strong performance from Silent Witness From Brand Republic: Quote:
Silent Witness pulls in 6.2m for BBC One http://www.brandrepublic.com/News/85...s-62m-BBC-One/
LONDON - BBC One last night drew four times as many viewers in the 9pm-10pm time slot as ITV1, as 6.2m tuned in to 'Silent Witness' compared to just 1.5m opting for 'Natural Born Sellers', according to unofficial overnight figures. Still going strong in what is now its twelfth season, the pathologist crime-thriller grabbed a 27.7% audience share last night. ITV1's 'Natural Born Sellers', billed as the poor man's 'The Apprentice', dropped from its debut figure last week of 1.7m viewers to 1.5m last night, a 6.9% audience share. |

More woe for Richard and Judy http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/2...oe_for_rj.html
Watch's star signings Richard and Judy fell deeper into the mire as their new show could only average 45,000 viewers (0.24%). The figure even falls below the slot average for timeshifted channel UKTV Gold+1 - the channel that Watch replaced this week in the EPG. The high profile talk show Richard and Judy's New Position managed to gain a peak audience of 58,000 (0.31%) at 8.15pm. The show then picked up another 4,000 when it aired an hour later on Watch+1 |

Is this the lowest ITV1 have ever dropped in Primetime? I don't see this lasting very long in its current slot..
