A quick look back at this thread last September, showed ITV1 had Doc Martin, Torn, Rugby World Cup and Hell's Kitchen (it did better than most of ITV's 9pm stuff this year, and grew as it went on).

Nothing missing from BBC1, apart from Neighbours.

Also I have noticed that having NaT has reduced ITV's overall share because that usually gets 11/12% max followed by programmes which get that share aswell. But last year ITV had 90 minute dramas followed by the news which got a greater share in the 10.30pm slot.

I think they had Silent Witness last September. They kept it back until 1st October this year. Don't know if it would make much difference, though.

Probably made a slight diiference, although the repeats of New Tricks they replaced it with did almost as well.

I think Virgin will be happy with those. Admittedly they could be better but if they consistently get 250-300k each every week then it's far from a disaster. I haven't watched Sarah Connor yet but it's sitting there on the PVR ready for later.

E4's Hollyoaks and Fiver's Home and Away went head-to-head tonight - I wonder how each faired? I think maybe 600k for the 'Oaks and 400k for H&A.

Maybe lower for H&A actually as I can't see many watching a double bill on Five and then turning over to Fiver for a THIRD episode. Results in overkill. But still, the clash will probably be enough to knock Hollyoaks down to "normal" levels after a massive couple of weeks for it.

Not so good. HBO would probably keep it on if it were going to win some awards, but that doesn't seem likely either.

Just looking ahead to the first few months of next year, ITV seem to have a solid weekend line-up. Not so sure about BBC1, you would think the Eurovision show would flop, but if The One and Only had 5 million viewers, anything can happen!

Saturday

ITV1:
Primeval
Demons
Ant and Dec
Harry Hill's TV Burp
All Star Mr and Mrs
The Colour of Money
Beat the Star*

Plus DOI and Wild At Heart on Sundays.

BBC1:
Lottery Shows
Casualty
ALW Eurovision Talent Contest
Wipeout
Robin Hood
MOTD
Six Nations Rugby

Also, there is going to be an All Star Mr and Mrs Christmas special. Any word on who is doing it? I could see that being a proper big name (odds on a famous politician?).

*I've included Beat the Star on the Saturday list because ITV Media is currently advertising sponsorship opportunities for the show listed as Q1 2009, where there is no room due to Wild At Heart and DOI on Sundays. It has been commissioned for 10, 70 minute episodes.

ITV have just slyly promoted Britannia High during Corrie's closing credits. Hmmm....

CBS's 11th Hour is doing very well! NBC's Kath and Kim looks likely to be canned though.

Why oh why is Two and a Half Men so popular in Oz? A repeat is of this rubbish is the second highest rating show of the night.

Yeah, ITV do have a stronger slate looking at that. Demons looks fantastic.

I can see Beat the Star airing on Saturdays, where else does it have to go? The Wish List will probably air on Sundays in the Spring.

Mr and Mrs probably will be paired up with BGT, although what will BBC1 have? Your Country Needs You and Wipeout are both airing in Q1.

Mr and Mrs will probably get the 3.10pm Christmas Day slot for its special. I agree with you in that it will probably have a big name on it.

For some reason, I can see it doing surprisingly well (5m or so). Radio Times are saying it's better than Fame!

If we are to put the main TV dominance in short terms between BBC and ITV:

January to April/May: ITV
April/May to September: BBC
September to January: ITV

That's the way I read things. The Summer is tradionally ITV's worst period.

That would suggest ITV is dominant over the BBC, but BBC1 has had a higher share than ITV for a few years now.

I'd say they were pretty much dominant every week except during BGT final heats and I'm a Celebrity. They dont get major gains over BBC1 every night at any other point.

Maybe for Saturday nights, but the BBC does dominate pretty much all year round (with the odd exception).

The BBC have so many consistent returning shows which can easily provide 5m+ on a regular basis. While ITV don't have as many consistent shows, they do have the 'event-tv' programmes, which get huge figures that the BBC don't get as often.

Just out of interest, has anyone actually seen Little Dorrit being advertised. I though it started a week on Sunday, not this week.

If ever a show deserved poor ratings. What utter trash.
