ITV Teletext is saying that Children In Need had a peak audience of 11.4 million. It doesn't have the average rating yet though.

Last year's peak was 10.9m - which suggests this years rating beat last years.

Wouldn't average 10m, no, but I bet it wouldn't be far off if the BBC1 and ITV1 schedules were along the lines of my suggestion.

Casualty, FWIW, got 8.2m on the corresponding Saturday last year when it aired before the SCD results show (which got 12.1m).

Sounds like CIN had a corker last night with a very high peak. And with the extra publicity for the already-resurgent Antiques Roadshow tomorrow, it should deliver something in the ballpark of 10m with Britannia Low plumbing new depths.

It's weird because Teletext said last year's peak was 11.3 million but I know that isn't right. Hopefully they managed to average 9 million up to 10pm.

Xmas this year supposedly. They'd better get their skates on if they are going to do it.

Bloody hell- huge rating for Children in Need! Really didn't expect it to be so high.

That's the joint lowest rating ever recorded for Coronation Street. It also got 5.7m (31%) on Sunday 15th June 2008.

And Children In Need night does the business again. No matter what you think about the quality of the show it still gets the viewers. And to do so well against two episodes of Coronation Street is amazing. I think that if it wasn't for the second Corrie the 7-10pm average rating would have hit 10 million

So CIN enters the top 10 of the yr and AR is on its way to doing it as well!

Second most watched CIN in 10 years.

There have been some very unexpected ratings performances this year. Britain's Got Talent, Doctor Who and New Tricks getting massive audiences in the summer, A Touch Of Frost not hitting 9 million in the Autumn and Stephen Fry's show holding up well against it, Top Gear's ridiculously and consistently good ratings on Sunday nights and Antiques Roadshow getting its highest ratings in years!

Does anybody think TXF having the highest vote of the series could indicate something?

As a sidenote Gary Linekear has just revealed the Strictly result on MOTD.

He didn't did he? I think we're going to see some big ratings over the next few weeks as the evenings get colder and people stay home.

Should be a big night for ITV, I think We Are Much Amused will do much better than Family Fortunes and the results show to be higher given its earlier timeslot

How does CIN do so well? Deary me (in the spirit of politcal correctness I know it's for a good cause).

Wow at the ratings for CIN! Didn't expect it to do so well at all and it dented Corrie badly! I thought Corrie would have held up a bit better.

CIN does very well these days because it showcases variety in a way which no other show does. In the eighties, when CIN started every other show was variety, so what it did wasnt all that much different to what was going on most nights of the week. No wonder established acts queue up to appear-its the best way to grab the attention in this splintered tv world.

As I said on the XF Ratings thread, I think it just indicates that the shock of Laura going last week and all the hype about "you need to vote" made an impact with viewers.

I think it will get similar ratings for both shows to last week. Strictly will probably win on share, XF will probably edge it on total viewers although it might be a bit closer again, SCD might be 10m or so this week with all the John Sargeant hype.

I'd use the term 'variety' very loosely in relation to CIN. Music, music, music isn't my idea of variety. If a singer wasn't singing, then the cast of some soap were. I suppose we had a couple of "sketches" and Terry dancing but it wasn't much.

why did itv bother showing a new Taggart?

You said it, virtually no variety unlike Comic Relief that manages to put on an entertaining and varied show most times.

We didnt have Comic Relief this yr.

I s'pose they did get quite a good lineup of singers but generally there wasent anything which constituted 'variety'. I hope Comic/Sports Relief is better.

I was thinking of Children In Need next year but now that you mention it maybe she would be good as a Strictly host.
