I quite like the way it changes throughout the night but Aleasha would certainly be a a good candidate

That must be the first time Emmerdale has beaten Coronation Street in the ratings for a very long time - the disliked 8.30 episode really didn't hold up, though I doubt ITV will consider changing much as generally it does the business. The rest of the night was a nightmare for ITV1 with not even a new Taggart or three soaps managing to hold on to an audience. Ironic, considering that ITV1 has been holding it's own on Friday's recently.

I'm astounded at Children in Need's figure - especially as the show seemed shoddy for many parts of it. But then if this year has shown anything, it's tripe on BBC1 does work a treat. Not that I dislike Children in Need: just thought it was a poor imiation of what it used to be. I remember the smell-o-vision nights and shows which involved the audience and children more.

The Ten O'Clock news was actually the second highest rated programme of the day, and BBC2 beat ITV1 in the 10 o'clock slot with QI. Nothing good coming up for ITV1 despite a competitive schedule. BBC must be delighted - with both the ratings and the amount raised, and I've got to say congrtaulations to them.

I'm in shock!

I expected good figures for Children in Need as it has always performed strongly though I'm still surprised quite so well. I guess, as we have pointed out regarding the X Factor, people seem to appreciate this kind of leightweight, knockabout entertainment more in the current climate. And in that genre, you just don't get bigger than the telethons.

The biggest surprise to me is just how badly Corrie performed, particularly at 8.30. Emmerdale suffered a predictable enough 1-1.5m dent at 7.00pm, but Corrie was much harder hit. I never thought I'd see the day when Corrie pulled a 22.9% share!

It'll recover though, and its only one night. That said, we might see a rethink from the other channels about how they combat Comic Relief next march and CIN next November. Better off to throw in the towel with some repeats or at least chase a different kind of audience.

Well, we don't have the full breakdowns for CIN from 7-10pm, but if Corrie on ITV1 could only get 7.4m amd 5.7m, then I think it's safe to say it did.

Would Corrie get a 2m+ ratings boost generally if it moved over to the nation's favourite channel?

Debatable.

I'm not actually surprised at all at CIN's figure because 1. The soaps seem to be losing some of their appeal lately and 2. Feel good TV seems 'in' at the moment. However it held up very well when it continued at 10.35pm.

ITV1 seemed to hold up reasonably well until 8.30pm, but then they seemed to collapse. Why though did they waste a new episode of Taggart up against CIN though? Would it not have been better to show the Midsomer repeat here and show the new Taggart episode the previous Friday?

CH4 probably performed better than it would have done if it had been showing new programming. FIVE held up quite well aswell, considering.

My Predictions - Saturday 15th November
BBC1
5:35pm - Hole in the Wall - 3.8m
6:05pm - Strictly Come Dancing - 9.1m
7:20pm - Merlin - 5.4m
8:05pm - The National Lottery Draws - 5m
8:15pm - Casualty - 4.6m
9:05pm - Outnumbered** - 3.9m
9:35pm - BBC News - 3.8m
10:00pm - Match of The Day - 3.6m

ITV1
6:20pm - New You've Been Framed! - 4.7m
6:50pm - Harry Hill's TV Burp - 6.2m
7:20pm - The X Factor - 10.4m
8:35pm - We Are Most Amused - 7.1m
9:35pm - The X Factor: The Result - 9.8m
10:20pm - We Are Most Amused - 5.2m

**Having a sitcom on Saturday night is in my view really bad scheduling. I'd have Friday 9pm or 9:30pm, but not Saturday in arguably a really competitive slot.

It's Crazy, I can't think of no comedy show that have been shown on a Saturday night after 9pm on BBC1 that has done well in the ratings recently . The first series got decent reviews, it deserves to have a better timeslot! Fridays 9:30 maybe?

IMO you have been quite generous with the rating! I can see it getting a lot lower than that! 2.9m - 3.3m maybe?

It depends on how many people found ITV's programming "Not Amusing".

Those predictions look about right D.M.N, although I think XF results and Outnumbered will be lower.

As you say, it's ridiculous scheduling to put Outnumbered in the slot that it's in. 2.7-3.2m is what I'm thinking, as remember, the last series only got that, and in the slot it's in, I don't see it doing any better.

Think of the average person, what would they have chosen to watch ... A sitcom that they have never heard off, with that guy from My Hero and Mock the Week, or a show with a host of huge comedy names all coming together for the prince’s 60th birthday?

Outnumbered for the last series was on 28th, 29th and 30th August 2007 and 3rd, 4th and 5th September 2007 at 10:35pm.

Outnumbered just seems like a filler show to me to prevent MOTD virtually being in the 9pm slot! At first I thought We Were Not Amused would flop, but after seeing the competition I think it could do really well. BBC2's 'The Fallen' will get >1m I think and I can't see Outnumbered doing any better than 3.5m, especially with WAMA well into its show. ITV seem to definetely have the better schedule out of the two last night.

EDIT: Also regarding ITV's XF sandwich show, it seems Family Fortunes has gone on a break to let WAMA & IAC become the XF sandwich. The final 3 episodes will probably air after IAC finishes which will take it to the end of December. I think Divas 2 was probably earmarked for a Saturday airing, but there just isn't enough room at the minute, but I can't see why ITV couldn't have saved it for the end of December when the XF finishes, because ITV really struggle until mid January? They could have:

6pm-YBF
7pm-TV Burp
7.30pm-Family Fortunes
8.30pm-Divas 2
9.30pm-Film

Though, from January ITV Saturday nights look much stronger than the BBC's which is surprise.

I think Outnumbered is in a stupid slot on Saturday and I'm not sure it'll do well.

That's what ITV did with The Premiership a few years ago!

Maybe the Beeb should test out:

21:00 - Match of the Day
22:30 - BBC News
22:45 - Outnumbered.

Maybe they'll do that IF Outnumbered flops.

The creator of Outnumbered said he was really happy with the slot.

I think its a good figure.

Its a no pressure slot - nothing does well there.

Most likely on Sunday though. As I look at it ITV have the following shows on Saturdays from Jan-March:

-YBF
-TV Burp
-Demons
-Primeval
-Saturday Night Takeaway

And from April-August:

-BGT
-The Colour Of Money
-The Krypton Factor
-Mr & Mrs
-Beat The Star

That's how I see it anyway

IIRC, that was put on Sunday from 18:45 to 20:00.

I can actually see X Factor getting its biggest rating yet and I say this because of all the hype over Laura's departure last Saturday, being talked about most of this week.

On the Outnumbered thread there appears to be many viewers who caught it for the first time and thought it was brilliant. If word then spreads, and those that enjoyed the 1st series follow the 2nd, it could build up a healthy following, despite its difficult slot.

That would suggest that Corrie finished early which will probably mean the officials will be much higher for the second episode
