Saturday 15th November Overnights
BBC1
18.05- Strictly Come Dancing: 9.69m (42.3%)

20.05- The National Lottery Draws: 4.22m (17.3%)
20.15- Casualty: 5.30m (22.2%)
21.05- Outnumbered: 3.73m (16.3%)

ITV1
18.50- Harry Hill's TV Burp: 5.45m (22.7%)
19.20- The X Factor: 10.58m (43.5%)
* peak: 11.78m (48.2%) at 20:10
20.35- We Are Most Amused: 7.43m (31.9%)
21.35- The X Factor Results: 9.54m (42.9%)
* peak: 10.47m (47.1%) at 22:10
22.20- We Are Most Amused: 6.01m (30.7%)

We Are Most Amused rated very well. It was the most watched X Factor Results show of the series- will most likely hit 10.5m once the officials come out. Strictly and Merlin performed solidly.

I expected the x factor to be a little higher with all the news coverage and controversey.

Plus very good for Merlin. Nearly 6 million.

There seems to be very little interest in the National Lottery Draws programme these days.

I'm amazed by that rating for We Are Not Amused!

Nice one, Polonius! It would seem the X Factor is ratings gold dust - whatever's in the middle of the two shows benefits.

It seems ITV are back in the firing line after being significantly dented on Friday. Strong result for both XF's-the results most likely being boosted by being up against Outnumbered and having WAMA scheduled around it, therefore not as big a drop off afterwards. Also it once again claims its top rated show of the week (unless IAC or AR can pull something big out of the bag). I didn't expect WAMA to get higher than 7m tbh-it really is hit of miss with these comedy/entertainment shows comparing that to For One Night Only.

Merlin & Strictly held up well, both up on last week, but as per it all tails off afterwards. IIRC ITV tried not to schedule XF up against Casualty too much last year because it dented it, but how things change! The serial format of soaps & dramas just isn't having the pulling power as much anymore.

Also interestingly already Corrie is the 5th most watched show of the week so far, but everything is so close (bar the XF which seems miles ahead of the rest) so Corrie could overtake CiN, EE & SCD when the officials come out.

Tonights ratings will be VERY interesting...

Yes if tonight's show is the most watched show of the week that will be stunning. I'm not sure it will though, but you just never know these days.

With the Strictly results show on Saturday BBC1 is exposed later in the evening. With IAC next week it'll get a much higher audience than Family Fortunes or We Are Not Amused when sandwiched between The X Factor.

After seeing the XF's rating I doubt AR will get above 10.6m, but there is a slight chance it could beat both soaps and CiN.

ITV have yet another strong schedule next week with IAC as the XF sandwich. Casualty & Outnumbered will be even more vunerable.

BTW either DS, Broadcast or MG have to use the headline ''BBC1 Outnumbered by ITV1'' tomorrow surely?

EDIT: I've just worked out that Emmerdale is going to struggle to get into the top 10 programmes this week because IAC and AR will 90% get over 7 million and then there's Top Gear which usually pulls in a high timeshift wheeras Emmerdale's timeshift is usually only around 0.3m. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's been a time in years that Emmerdale hasn't made the top 10!?

Very good night for the talent shows again - they've both been in the press a bit more this week with the shock departure from the X Factor and John Serjent hanging in ther on SCD. Wrapping a variety offering like 'We Are Most Amused' around X Factor was a good move and it did well for them.

I'm really impressed by the Merlin ratings - I thought it was going to sink a few weeks ago, but its made a bit of a comeback and to pull nearly 6 million opposite such strong opposition is a superb effort. A shame to see Outnumbered struggle, but we all predicted it would in that slot. Its a good comedy which is something we don't see so much of these days - the kids are fantastic in it.

Fantastic ratings yet again. I had a feeling the results show for XF would do really well, because I bet Leona Lewis performing would have been a huge 'pulling factor' as well as seeing if there would be another shock exit like Laura's this week.

I think XF will remain the top rated show of the week. I can't see IAC or Antiques Roadshow gaining that title.

I am so pleased that Merlin is holding up incredibly well, despite being up against XF. It's going from strength to strength each week in my opinion and I hope it gets a second series!

I had thought Outnumbered might pick up viewers next week, judging by the almost 100% approval of it in the thread, but it's a VERY tough 9pm slot next week, with all 5 terrestrials having something strong on (even if the CSI episode on 5 is a repeat).

.

It shows that people would rather see a show surrounding the lottery rather than the draws itself. I think as the draw only programme are only 10 minutes, it doesn't get included in the official BARB figures as it's under 15 minutes.

BBC have got a new series of In It to Win It (8 shows) ready to roll but they have put it back so they can wheelout Outnumbered instead and let Merlin wrap up their series.

I can't go further than that, so don't know when the final is. All I can say is that the addition of News at Ten this year is really messing up I'm a Celebrity's scheduling.”

The final is on Friday 5th December AFAIK. According to UK TV Guide, between Mon 1st-Thu 4th it is on 21.00-22.00 with the final on Fri 5th from 21.00-22.30.

Im not surprised Merlin is doing so well in the face of arguably the most difficult opposition. Last nights episode was tremendous entertainment imo. In a reality free world it would hit 8 million without the aid of a repeat I reckon.
The BBC do seem to make life very difficult for its shows-Robin Hood is going to run in the Spring according to Points of View. Presumably against BGT.

BBC1's Outnumbered is one of the best comedies I've seen on the channel all year, and would work much better spread across a whole week again, or maybe on Friday nights at 9pm . I am just generally excited by the series, as it's the first time my family have gathered around the telly, because it relates with us. We are middle class but a bit mad. They call it middle England?

Back to the ratings, BBC1 were really solid despite ITV's dominance, with a set of good ratings for Casualty, which always holds up with a loyal audience, and is a credit to the channel by giving variety to Saturday nights, so it's not just clogged up with entertainment. Moreover, Merlin is a really good show and creates appetite for event family drama on Saturday nights, which will definitely affect the future for Saturday night television, which BBC1 gets right despite their limitations on this night in comparison to ITV1.

I feel ITV will see an improvement on Saturday nights next year, because this autumn has been brilliant in settling down with a loyal audience on Saturday nights with a mix of comedy, variety, talent and some gameshows. Harry Hill is solid, and will perform even better when Strictly has finished. It's just a good show and is above the 5 million zone. But I am surprised at the viewers of 'We are Most Amused', as it brings comedy together, and I think ITV should air 'For One Night Only' in the slot between X Factors in future, if they continue with the shows.

In conclusion, Saturday nights are redeeming themselves as the centrepoint of the week, with the most innovation for shows which base themselves around the popular talent shows. This is where Doctor Who, Primeval and Merlin have established themselves, as well as other shows that bring back the gameshow nostalgia. It has become a BBC1 v ITV1 zone, and that makes ratings very interesting & competetive.

Whereas on weekdays, Channel 4 and Five can pick up over 2/3 million viewers in primetime 9pm slots, as well as BBC Three & Four, ITV2, 3 & 4, E4 and More 4 get in on the act and attract a hand of viewers between them. This means, BBC1 and especially ITV1 need to work hard to create an 'elite' image on weeknights, and this is going to be hard. The digital (r)evolution has affected the big two on weekdays, but as they limit their programming on Saturday & Sunday, gives them a chance to grow on these days.

And an apology for the lengthy post.

As impressive as XF's figures have been this run, it looks like its audience has just about reached its peak. Same probably true for SCD now too.

I think the Beeb will be pleased that Merlin is more than holding its own (adding in the timeshift viewing to the proper ratings) and be reasonably content with 3.7m+ for Outnumbered.

With word of mouth, the Wednesday repeat, and no Royal comedy gala on next Saturday, it may do better next week. I don't actually think IACGMOOH will damage it too much, even if it gets more than 7.3m, because it will attract a different audience to IACGMOOH. A Royal variety show will always do well with a BBC-inclined viewership, even if it's on ITV.

Another factor in Saturday night improvements is the lack of 'slots', so people want to watch the programmes, and will therefore stay with these two channels all night to watch the programmes, not remembering slots, like on weekdays.

The wait was worth it I guess!

For what it's worth, the peak at 20:10 for The X Factor was during Eoghan's performance, whether that means anything, well.... I dunno.

Great night for ITV, We Are Most Amused performed very well, even the second part did very well. BBC's drawing power on Saturday at the moment only seems to be coming from Strictly Come Dancing and to a certain degree Merlin - Casualty has faded a bit in the past half year.

And as I said earlier, what a stupid slot for Outnumbered.

That's stupid scheduling in itself, so in an hour they've got to recap the previous days events, go into the jungle to announce who's going out and interview them all in an hour? (well, really 45 minutes removing commercials!)

Brilliant for ITV1 last night, i'm surprised how well We Are Most Amused did
Its going to be very interesting tonight with some big ratings for AR, I'm A Celeb..., Top Gear and SCD.
How do the first episode of I'm a celeb usually do?

It probably means Merlin had just finished on BBC1 and some of its 6m viewers started flicking around whilst the Lottery draw was on, and before Casualty started.
