Quite an exciting game, and I thought the Chessmen had blown it on the Wall!
![]() A bit of a shame that when VCM said the answer to one of the first round questions was "sports in which there's been more than one world champion with the same name", she completely overlooked the American Phil Hill who was F1 World Champion in the early 60s. ![]() At least the team captain knew that as he mentioned "another Hill". ![]() Although I do find it a little disappointing when the result is decided by the missing voles round (as I like to call it) as this round doesn't rely on any "connections" being identified. |

Hey I was on fire last night. I actually solved an entire wall. Gobsmacked just dies not cover it. Well OK my sister helped with the rabbits, but boy was I chuffed.
Why do I enjoy a quiz where i can't get most of the answers? |

I found the insistence that Audrey Roberts was a cannibal was hilarious. Apart from anything else, Audrey in Little shop of Horrors isnt a cannibal either.

It was solving an earlier connections sequence quickly for the extra points that was the difference in the end I think.

Surprised Victoria allowed the "Derby and Derby" answer, seeing as he pronounced both answers the English way

The real joy of Only Connect isn't the quiz, it's the constant freak show they have as contestants.

Why do I enjoy a quiz where i can't get most of the answers? Having said that, I did really badly last night. (Also did badly on University Challenge: perhaps I was tired? )

I find the Chessmen's captain particularly unbearable. A shame the Gallifreyans lost as they were so close.

So far IIRC, the team that lost one of their opening round matches ( ie played 3 games) has beaten the team that only played twice - is there a pattern developing for these knockout stages - ring rusty perhaps?

I though she should have pushed them for a final answer. They had three variations on the same answer, including fathers & sons.
She should have asked for which one they wanted to go with but instead she disregarded the other two answers and accepted the correct one. The answer they gave was correct as Graham, Damon and Phil Hill are not all related. There was no reason for VCM to ask for another answer as no part of the answer they gave was wrong or incomplete. |

i thought this last episode is by far and away the easiest there has ever been, We got nearly all the questions right tonight. A very rare thing on our house. I feel that it is being a bit dumbed down. Also why does VC look pregnant?

The James Dean question was mentioned earlier in this thread, and I tried it on a film buff friend. He disagreed, so I did a bit of digging.
The sequence was: Has Anyone Seen my Gal East of Eden Rebel Without a Cause Giant and the answer shown on the screen was ‘James Dean’s Final Films’. The ever delightful Victoria Cohen-M says: ‘These are the last four films in which James Dean had a credited role.’ JD wasn't credited by name in any film before he made East of Eden. So the screen is correct and Victoria not quite? Well, Has Anyone seen my Gal was made in 1952 and in 1953 he had another uncredited role as a football spectator in Trouble Along the Way, so the entire answer seems dubious. All this gleaned from IMDB and confirmed on Wikipedia, not that that is the absolute truth. I suppose it all depends on what credited means. |
