The James Dean question was mentioned earlier in this thread, and I tried it on a film buff friend. He disagreed, so I did a bit of digging.

The sequence was:

Has Anyone Seen my Gal
East of Eden
Rebel Without a Cause
Giant

and the answer shown on the screen was ‘James Dean’s Final Films’. The ever delightful Victoria Cohen-M says:

‘These are the last four films in which James Dean had a credited role.’

JD wasn't credited by name in any film before he made East of Eden. So the screen is correct and Victoria not quite? Well, Has Anyone seen my Gal was made in 1952 and in 1953 he had another uncredited role as a football spectator in Trouble Along the Way, so the entire answer seems dubious.

All this gleaned from IMDB and confirmed on Wikipedia, not that that is the absolute truth.

I suppose it all depends on what credited means.
Yes this seems to be a bit of a mess overall. Maybe he didn't speak in Trouble Along the Way.
His character is mentioned as "Extra".

So perhaps they are his last films where he had a speaking part. (?) Anyone know these earlier films?

A quick search of YouTube has James Dean with a speaking part in "Has Anyone Seen My Gal" ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oIUHxxc5JY

I can't find anything for "Trouble Along The Way" other than that he had a role as an "extra" which suggests he just appeared in the background and didn't have a speaking part.

This works quite well with vaguely familiar non-celebs in it, without having to be too competitive. Might be the way to go forward unless they can find some closer to normal contestants from the public applicants.

Thought the captain of the winning team was quite obnoxious, don't think the word "please" is in his vocabulary.

I can't even remember who won.

Didn't somebody make the same observation about one of the regular season captains?

And does anybody even watch Red Nose Day any more? I certainly haven't for years. Is Lenny Henry still on it?

In 2013 Comic Relief's prime time show averaged 9.8m and peaked at 12.2m, so yes, people still watch Red Nose Day. (i'm yet to decide how much, if any, I will watch).

For a celeb episode I thought it was good. They actually had people who'd seen the show and knew how to play it.

Wasn't there one hiccup when someone forgot the second round was about sequences?

Mind you, I'd imagine it's easily done, and I did enjoy the episode. I even managed to get quite a few of the answers!

The two captains had been on before.

I was gutted they won, I really dislike them. The captain clearly hates the eager guy and keeps rebuffing and patronising him. The other guy never gets a chance to contribute.

I thought the sequences were really hard, but the walls weren't too bad at all.

The reverse acronym question seemed very familiar to me.

Has it been on before or was it on another show recently.

The captain is unbearable.

The musical excerpt played was from Beethoven's violin concerto not Brahms' violin concerto, as stated. I was quite surprised the quizsetters got that wrong.

I'm sure there was a wrong answer in the concertos connection. They gave answers as Brahms, Bartok, Elgar and Koussevitzky but could have sworn I heard Beethoven rather than Brahms?

Yes the captain of the Gamesmasters didn't seem to know the word please.

The hatred that some on here have for certain team members is bizarre. Although Kapellmeister does hate everyone and everything so I guess why discriminate with Only Connect.

Yes, it is strange how passionate some of the posters here (and on the UC thread) get about people they've never met, and will see only fleetingly. I see some of the posters are still incensed at the existence of that poor Gamesmasters captain. His team got knocked out several weeks ago!

Having said that, if there is a show where it seems okay to hate the contestants, Only Connect must be it! Talk about social misfits..

God alone knows but then I find most of her attempts at humour on this to fall flat.
