Her meeting with Una Stubbs which she had alluded to earlier, but without any detail.

It was supposed to be a joke, sadly not a funny one.

She was completing her Una Stubbs anecdote from the introduction. Not her finest hour...

I've been a big fan of Victoria Coren for many years, but she really seems to have started believing her own publicity. Victoria, you're a witty, charming lady, but you're not comedian of the year, just present the show... you know, like you used to on BBC4.

To be fair to Victoria the production team may have decided to increase her role to make the quiz more 'personable'. I'm sure she's done a story which has been cut by the credits before.

I still enjoy the quiz thoroughly and like the Chessmen.

Agree completely. I turned to the Mrs at the end and said that after the final I'm not going to watch the new series. VC has really been bugging me lately.

Please finish your story. How did logansmum take this news.

Has she really increased her role? She always did bizarre but apparently funny intros and end-pieces that waffled on and on. And she always attempted little jokes and anecdotes in between questions. I'm not sure her contribution has really increased at all.

But then, this being the OC thread, one of you lot will no doubt have constructed a spreadsheet stretching from the first series through to 2015, and showing exactly how many minutes per episode VCM spoke for, thus proving that she spends half as much time again talking as used to be the case....

Was there a mistake in the words made up of only letters from the top line of a QWERTY keyboard question?

Didn't quite catch it but Victoria rejected the answer saying it would have needed an E in it, E clearly being on the top line and therefore acceptable?

Not an "E" ... but she did (somewhat laughably!) discount it because it would have required a "Y"!

Last time I looked, "Y" was not only on the top row, but also in "QWERTY"!

Yes, but the 'Y' would have been in the letters already on the screen if it was that word. It wasn't, so it could not have been that word.

The letter 'Y' does not feature in the word 'outpour' which was the answer. If it did it would have appeared in the clue. As it did not it could not obviously be the word 'typer', the guess made by the contestant.

You're right!

I need to have a quiet word with my brain as it's not behaving itself today!

So what exactly was the question?

As I said I didn't catch all of it, just her discounting the answer given

Words that can only be spelt using the letters found on the top line of a QWERTY keyboard.

I don't think the two Perth's are twinned.

The two Perth's what?

(I would only post something like that on this thread. For all other threads I would just seethe inwardly).

Oh dear. I made an error whilst quickly typing on the internet. Hang me now. I could still correct it but shall leave it as it is just so you can seethe every time you read it.

Perth in Scotland is twinned with Perth in Ontario, Canada (though not with Perth in Australia).

Sorry. Didn't mean to offend. Merely a joke (as poor as Victoria's).

Same here. Been a fan of hers for a while now but i've mentioned in passing before that the more telly exposure she's getting the more she seems to be full of herself.

Luckily for us she was faded out. Not so lucky for the teams in the studio.

Seeing as though we're taking potshots at OC teammembers, the Oxonian captain has appeared on a couple of episodes of Sky One's Quiznights.
Not only is he just as insufferable on that but he too also thinks he's a joker.

Thank you. I'm too late to edit it now though.

I thought Perth UK was only twinned with Aschaffenburg, Germany. Isn't Ontario just a sister city, although I'm not really sure what the difference is?

Also 'typer' isn't a word (at least not in English).

It's a perfectly cromulent word .

A 'typer' is presumably someone who types. It's a valid derived english word (i.e. it conforms to the rule of grammar and it's meaning can be deduced). The fact we generally use 'typist' is a matter of.. tradition, I'd say? I've never quite understood why some 'people who do a thing' are 'ist' - cellist, soloist - while other things are 'er' - drummer, writer. There seems no real pattern as far as I can tell, the meanings of the two endings seem equivalent.
