While I did find that a bit irritating and they definitely have been getting an easy ride, I was more overcome at the shock of VCM not knowing how to pronounce 'Rioja'. You'd think nice glass of red would be very much her thing.

She knows full well how to pronounce it. She sometimes feigns ignorance or says it two different ways to avoid 'tipping the gaff', as magicians would put it.

I don't see how. There's no way it could have gone Yorkshire -> Border -> Tyne Tees.

Not all show Border to the north of Tyne Tees, and plenty show overlap. Plus if you were to go by where they are primarily based Newcastle is further north than Carlisle. The Border/Tyne Tees divide is clearly much more east/west than north/south.

I liked the way Victoria said that it obviously can't be words with double vowels, but is words with one consonant instead. Sure, I can see that there are much fewer one consonant words (unless you start picking out all the obscure ones that seem to be made up just to fill a Scrabble dictionary), and why "double vowels" is obviously the wrong answer, but it feels like a interesting technicality to lose a point on.


Ofcom did try merging Tyne Tees and Border a few years ago, but decided it created too large a region that didn't serve the viewers well, so split it back up to how it used to be recently.
