CNash has answered for me re the Sword of Gryffindor; You are right about the Fiendfyre.
![]() But I still don't thing "ring" was right. The Hallow/horcrux was only the Stone. Please stop me from turning this thread into a "Who knows most about Harry Potter" discussion - honestly, I annoy myself with it! ![]() (appropriate use of kitty?! )Quote:
Please stop. When people start talking about Harry Potter it's as if they are speaking in a different language.
Going back to last night's episode, it was good to see "Scandinavian Dramas" in the missing vowels round. Now that was a proper BBC4-type category.

(appropriate use of kitty?! )MTDR was hilarious. I've never heard of it but answered Matador because... well.. it basically already says Matador! ![]() ![]() Then I get a lot of the missing vowels questions - that's the way my head works. I have never recovered from the Boardgamers first connecting wall. I went off around the house describing it to a brace of uninterested teenage sons. Had had enough of Jamie on UC! |

You said "who knows most" which clearly implies some level of competition... I don't know why you are splitting hairs. I was just being silly about the kitty smiley. I have no idea what it means.
I wish I knew what the cat thing meant, though. I can see I'm never going to find out! |

Glad others noticed that stupid petals question! You would think Only Connect, of all game shows, would be strict about keeping the rules fair between the two teams. The answer to the flowers/petals questions was wrong, and they even asked her if Lester was in American Beauty? At that point she seemed to be accepting the answer already, which was odd.
If a team is getting towards the connection/sequence and Vicky says 'give me more' or 'have another go,' that means expand/reduce/develop/change your guess at the final answer. IT DOES NOT MEAN waffle a bit about the one or two clues which you recognise - 'Lester is in American Beauty isn't he?' - and we'll give you the points. Although in the Boardgamers case it does. So many times when the Boardgamers are close to an answer Jamie starts waffling about the clues (or often one clue) he recognises - which is a bizarre thing to do, giving extra info to the other team when it may be passed across - and that is enough to get the point. I think this is something which needs to be cracked down on in future series, ie feel free to waffle an actual answer but don't expect to get points just by waffling knowledge about one or two of the clues. Also, as others have mentioned, for a team of Boardgamers, whose logical skills should be top notch, the way they approach their guesses at the connecting wall is just farcical and cringeworthy. |

Firstly, although you are right, I think calling the ring a hallow is fair enough. During the books, the hallow was mostly inside the ring before it was removed and put in the snitch. I can see why they got away with that particular part of it. Second bit - totally agree. Result may have been different otherwise. I guess you work on the show/questions? I'm sure I've seen before when someone has the right connection and only a vague answer and was given the points? Horcruxes is not a Potter way of saying magical objects. They are a type of magical object, of which there are probably millions ![]() So no, I don't think it would have been accepted, although one of the hallows was turned into a horcrux .Among other things (I can think of the sword of Gryffindor and fiend fyre) |

I'm afraid that tonight again left a rather sour taste in the mouth. Of course they won easily enough, but Only Connect is a programme where I'm not accustomed to shouting at the screen due to obvious injustice. I thought there was definitely one part where the camera went to the Eonophile's captain & he looked to be seething to me.

Board Gamers must be the worst finalists since Kirk Shepherd!
How on earth have they made it this far? Dreadful. ![]() Quote:
Amazing that they have got to the final and are probably the worst team ever on the Wall round.

I dont know if it's one of those things, like when looking at the clock when it's 11:11

Still really like the show, and I don't really get the conspiracy theory myself. David explained it all quite eloquently above.
I would say the show could maybe do with a small change to the format here or there, rather like on Pointless to keep it from going stale. Also I find having the same team on several times on a confusing passage to a final is a little annoying. Having said all that, again David has alluded in the past to the BBC telling them how many shows they wanted, and I imagine the budget is tiny (given it's BBC4), so I'm just grateful for something that isn't a cookery/property/antique/jungle/singing contest related show! Not sure how much davidbod had to do with the format of the show but he is leaving after the next series so maybe the new bod may implement format changes. |

Can't resist the opportunity for a cheeky conspiracy theory!!
A departure following such bias in an otherwise excellent quiz show? Don't tell me that they don't check the question content before the show, particularly if one of the questions may be insensitive to current affairs or one of the contestants? I'm still looking for someone who has heard of that Cattan board game. Guess I need to get down to the comic book store more often? |

Secondly, you'd be wasting your time as it's not a comic book. I'd suggest Toys'R'Us. The one near me has an entire wall of board games, which you'll probably be amazed to find aren't all variants of monopoly. |

I notice that the Xmas Radio Times has given away the result of the second semi-final. (Strange, given the reticence to name the teams progressing in University Challenge!)
And I share the irritation at the progress of the Board Gamers. I agree at the unusual latitude on Monday, and their Wall technique is profoundly annoying (and doesn't work). Their captain was annoying enough on University Challenge. |

I suppose the first few BBC2 episodes will be 'Celebrity Specials' to get a new audience on board: Giles Brandreth, Melinda Messenger and Vic Reeves versus Janet Street Porter, Graeme Souness and Pam Ayres.

![]() A BBC2 panel show without Sarah Millican? Impossible to even think of such a thing. |

There is absolutely NO WAY the BBC would allow such a thing to happen.

Can we find out who suggested 'celebrity' version of an otherwise good quiz for bright people and make sure they never work in TV again?
I certainly don't want it dumbed down for the knuckle-draggers who'll watch something with celebrities on BBC2 but never bothered when it was clever nobodies on BBC4. |
