Thanks for the explanation, I would never have got that from what davidbod said, it didn't make any sense to me .

I've heard of Settlers, despite not being a boardgamer or having ever knowingly been inside a comic book shop. And come on, they won 24-10; it's rather churlish to claim that they fluked or ingratiated themselves into the final.

Last year, one of the sequences was the skill levels from Doom and other ID Software games, so if that's OK, then why not mystic Lords of K'aa, or Settlers of Cattan ... ?

It's just snobbishness. Obviously (to some people) board games and Barbie dolls are childish pursuits and therefore aren't worthy enough for a quiz like OC. Even worse it's snobbishness born of ignorance, which is a bad combination.

However the bare fact is there is nothing which is out of bounds in an OC question, that's the whole point of them. Once you start limiting the areas of knowledge that questions can be drawn from, you actually make the quiz easier, not harder.

I've been away for two weeks so just catching up, but have to say that the Boy George, Geprge Harrison, Harrison Ford etc. question was pretty wanky, as you needed to get to Q3 before you could guess it...

And I haven't even watched the Boardgamers yet doing what sounds like their usual 'mathematical horse' trick.

Good point. The other intensely annoying aspect of that particular question was that apparently you could win the point by inventing any old sequence of words beginning with Ford, before being told you actually meant something completely different.

No, question 2, which is what I got it on and I'm sure many others. Pretty easy question by OC standards.

Boy George, George Michael, Michael Douglas, Douglas Adams

That's the risk with guessing after one clue. It was guessable after two clues though.

That's right, nobody else is called Harrison.

In terms of "famous" Harrisons....

You don't seem to be on there, however.

Harrison Craig won the Aussie version of The Voice earlier this year.

That's probably someone in Production who read the application form back to front, and then Craig Harrison thought "That sounds way cooler"

Yes, but I think Only Connect is predicated on people or things that most people have actually heard of. Or at least the most likely.

(Personally, I couldn't tell you who won the UK version of The Voice either )

There's still no actual connection between 1st and 4th, though, which there usually is....

If you take that post and the posts arguing about the boardgame then it's just as likely that a guy from The Voice could easily be an answer rather than the obvious.

No stop, my sides, Oz has a version of Only Connect ?

I shudder to think of the connections that would be used in order for the average ocker to take part.

I like the idea of an Australian version of Only Connect, but we were actually talking about The Voice.

But you knew that.

Well, this is the Only Connect thread, and it does offer more comic potential than a shit talent show.

Is one of the contestants transgender tonight? I missed the intro so I didn't hear their names.

Just a shame that those who read the Christmas Radio Times knew who would win tonight.

So there won't be an undefeated winner in the hollow revised format. The Bakers obviously the lesser evil in the final.
