It just occurred to me, there was a glut of questions last night on a football theme - colours of strips, US soccer teams (US soccer teams! FFS...) on the Wall and football 'tricks' (very weak category) on the Missing Vowels round.

I'm so very glad to see so many people going for their 5 point answers, and getting them this week. Also remember that this is the second round of the quiz, with harder connections too!

And we have had two harry potter questions on the last two episodes too.

There are topics that come up very regularly, scrabble, potter, dr who, star trek, "only connect" itself etc.

I could maybe claim that I almost would have got a 5 point if i knew a carp when i saw one, but I got it on the grouse.

I wonder if it would be possible to devise an obscure set of clues that were just blocks of colour without using the obvious ones like rainbows, traffic lights etc.

There was nothing else on the second wall I would have picked up.”

That's the point, I don't think I could name a single U2 song or American football team and I don't think I am alone.

I didn't get the U2 songs, not a big fan despite owning one of their albums. But then that's the album that almost everybody was forced to own. And not many of them have listened to it either. (I listened to it once.)

Only connect is a mixture of general knowledge and logic, sometimes you just need 1, sometimes the other and sometimes both!

I'm pretty poor on literature or certain shows. I knew that a connection last night was characters in something, but having never watched "skins" i would not get it in 2,000,100 years!

As for getting .2 after just one clue, I'm not so sure. Even when you had 2 and .25 up, it seemed like a 'too easy for O question....”

I noticed that too (they weren't all at Alton Towers, one team member even said "Oh one is in Blackpool") then VCM said "Theyre all rollercoasters"

that answer changed the result of the quiz

I though she'd given the point on "all funfair rides" and was just doing a chatty follow-up for the slightly more specific connection rather than asking for more detail for the point or not.

She was looking for something more specific than "funfair rides" but what they gave her was too specific and wrong.

You're pretty poor at something.

I find that very hard to believe.

Wrong again codeblue! Paul DNAP is correct on this one.

Given her last two posts, she's pretty poor at paying attention to the show as well!

If i made a mistake in thinking vicky had kind of let them off a wrong answer then i apologise.

I cannot remember her being so lax in the second round before though, certainly she has let a few borderline answers pass.

It wasn't the second one I called a stinker as I suspect you jolly well know so I feel entirely justified in moving my assessment of the first wall to you! As I wouldn't know a U2 song from a One Direction ballad, the smartphone manufacturers was the only category I could make any progress with, a problem clearly shared by the team. The second wall was a ten pointer all the way.

Which it is. This is the only team ever to have done it as far as I'm aware. The normal distribution is, as you might expect, two points either side of 50/50 so it wouldn't matter if they had a thousand questions in this round in terms of importance to the final result.

By comparison, the walls round, gives you three points free and clear if you get all 8 answers as opposed to 7. The sequence round has a minimum score of two points per correct question as opposed to zero for an incorrect one. There really is no basis to this accusation of overweighting the final round when the previous rounds are so clearly more inequitable.

Oh good grief. They said amusement park rides which is correct but not the given answer. Victoria was trying to get them to refine it to rollercoasters but in doing so led them up the wrong path so simply admitted that their original answer was good enough. No drama. No scandal. Moving on!

I was slightly surprised that one team member stated that Rita is a backwards acronym for 'Alton Towers Intamin Rocket' which let's be honest is quite geeky knowledge that you'd likely have to have an interest in theme parks etc to know. However he then stated all the rides were at Alton Towers, despite one of the most well known rollercoasters in the country, namely Blackpool's Big One, being in the line-up. The Swarm and the Revolution are less widely known, but again, it still seems odd he wouldn't know these rides aren't at Alton Towers, despite knowing information that has never been publicly advertised (because most people don't know, much less care what an Intamin Rocket is), about another ride at the same park.

Football colours one was too easy for this stage in the comp. Should have gone Plymouth, Everton, Southend United, Fiorentina.

Agreed that it was rather odd that he knew what "Rita" stood for but didn't know that "The Big One" was in Blackpool. That's Only Connect contestants for you!

Do Southend play in indigo then?

I think they should have just had the same football question they did, but not have printed the names in the colour of the strip, to make it less easy.
