Although the fact that one of them knew what Grindr was but not the others in that question suggests that he's at least trying to.

I'd be really worried if there were any Mels around. Hmm, "Mel B", I rest my case.

Really surprised no one has picked up on the wrong answer in tonights missing vowels round.

Having made it clear the round consisted of well known sayings MINUS the 'and' she accepted 'Bibs and Bobs' as a correct answer, when a minute earlier she hadn't accepted an answer from the other team (I think they buzzed in with 'bits and pieces' and were told 'No- Bits, pieces'

I might possibly be wrong on 'bits, pieces' because at the time I didn't realise it was going to become an issue a minute later. The whole point of the round was to make it harder by removing 'and' from each clue- and the potential pitfall of finding yourself saying 'and' in the answer. One team was penalised for saying 'and'- the other wasn't.

I think you might be mistaken here.

The first clue was "nooks, crannies" which one of the bibliophiles answered with "nooks AND crannies" and was told he was incorrect. The second & third answers - "bits, bobs" and "odds, ends" were each said without anything in the middle of the words.

For the final "dribs, drabs" answer, the QI Elf who answered does seem to make a a very small sound when he answers, inbetween "dribs" and "drabs".It appears to be as a result of him wanting to ensure each word is enunciated clearly rather than the two words running into one. It certainly wasn't the full word "and" or anything like it.

I liked the Elves team and Anne was very nice indeed. Hope they get through their second chance.

I really loved the picture sequence in this ep, felt very proud I managed it after two clues :P

I paid particular attention after the first missing vowels answer was rejected for having "and" in the middle, and inothernews was mistaken - there was no "and" in the middle of bits bobs".

Ok- I've watched it back on iplayer!

Part of the problem was I didn't post instantly- bit I did assume when I logged in an hour later lots of people would have mentioned it.

Therefore- first group said 'Nooks and Crannies' which was wrong, and I thought the final answer said 'Dribs and Drabs' I agree I was wrong, but there was a little 'something' that made me think he had said 'and' Maybe it was simply because he managed to stop himself at the last second. Obviously it didn't help that an hour later I couldn't remember which phrase it was on- but happy to admit I was wrong!

It felt like an Ask The Family hidden picture question and was too easy - was it possible to get it wrong?

I was disappointed with the whole show last night. It really suffers from the comparison with University Challenge - too lenient, too slow and lost the aura that it had on BBC4.

The two things that most irritate me are both hangovers from the BBC Four days: the self-absorbed questions (like identifying the Only Connect logo) and the self-consciously wacky contestants. The majority of the questions are still enjoyable but why do we need to know that a contestant climbed Ben Nevis wearing a thong or speaks fluent Klingon?

Ironically University Challenge was particularly bad last night, and that was down to the poor general knowledge of the team members.

I agree with you regarding the logo question, but I rather like the wacky intros, and get quite disappointed when someone doesn't have anything silly enough and just sounds like they're doing a dating profile: "Likes country walking and watching films" - please!

You obviously need to get on both programmes to show them how it should be done.

The introduction of the contestants only takes a few seconds, something wacky might help to relax them and is more interesting than hearing they have a First at Oxford, a PhD and Nobel Prize.

Any team should now expect the odd question about Only Connect so be prepared for one.

Quick question about the logo sequence

Do folks think that it would have been possible to get this with just one image? I guess it would, but you'd have had to be extremely brave to chance it!

Does nobody think it might be a bit unfair letting people who technically work for the BBC compete?

I mean, I know there's no 'big' prize, but still.

it didn't do them much good! And aren't they employed by "Talkback" anyway?

I guessed it from the first image, it was the colours that gave it away for me.

My other half got it too.

I knew it was Only Connect colours, but wrongly assumed they'd just used them because they were the Only Connect colours, not because the logo would emerge from the haze.

Me too! A 5 pointer, I said "1: Twister."
Whether I'd have had the balls to go with it on the actual show however, is another matter.

I got it after clue 2, but certainly recognised the OC shades of blue in clue 1.

Seems the logo was gettable then!

TBH, initially looked to be something along the lines of an HTML colour chart, and I could only see the logo by using a severe squint on image 3!

I agree. Always a bonus when they have a pretty girl on the show.

I recognised the colours and assumed it was some colour chart of shades of blue, but I was certain it was the logo on the second picture. You could certainly know what it was on the first clue, but I reckon you'd be stupid to go for it :L
