It was scandalous they got a point for round the world when they had absolutely no clue why. How can anybody have avoided hearing about Palin's travels? Bloody hell.
On a tangent, in University Challenge there was a question about the first messages sent via SMS, telegraph etc, exactly as appeared on OC a couple of weeks ago. Now I don't believe in coincidences, and this happens fairly often, so do all the question setters get together and swap ideas, or have they come from a common origin? I assume the programmes are recorded at widely spaced intervals in time and distance. |

Not sure I've had such a negative visceral reaction to a contestant before. Good Lord.

Love the idea of him eating cheese from a Billy Goat.

Yes, and we've to put up with the bellend at least once more. I was yelling at him to STFU during the wall.

I think it's inevitable that the quality of contestants will drop a notch over time. Champion teams in the early series often featured the creme de al creme of talent from the British quizzing scene - the likes of David Stainer and David Lea, for instance. (Full disclosure: David Lea is a friend - I've quizzed with him on occasion before and while my general knowledge is better than most, the amount of stuff he knows is scary.) |

Yes, I was surprised that Victoria didn't spot the flaw with that concept.
I seem to be the only one (except Victoria) who finds Jamie mildly amusing, and enjoys their banter. ![]() |

I think she was a pre-sex op man. No offence meant but I struggled not to laugh out loud. It was like something out of a comedy sketch show. Emma - you are a star! Are you one of those people who points and laughs at people in the street? http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...on-ada-007.jpg So when you see a man dressed up as a woman on a quiz show it's hard to take him/her seriously. I don't think my reaction - certainly when you consider the long history of comedic drag artists on tv/theatre/film - was unreasonable or wrong. |

Oh for goodness sake - I thought we got over this childish Emma-baiting the first time she appeared.
After a brief double-take the first time around, I didn't really even notice this time. And they wiped the floor with the other team. Good for them. |

Emma is not a drag act, so please move past those comparisons.
Thank goodness she has such a lovely and loving family around her as it's clear she can't have such an easy ride with some of the General Public. |

I enjoyed the episode ,after suffering loads of teams comprising tweedy savants, and earnest combovers, the two teams last night contained personalities with a sense of fun.
I want that pube-haired Doc working at my health centre. |

So I assume that at the sight of any dog, even say a Doberman snarling and showing his teeth as it runs towards you, you would smile and chuckle remembering Pudsey? Surely context is everything? Man dressed as a woman on stage whilst you are attending a comedy night = drag queen. Man dressed as a woman on a quiz show or shopping in Tesco = not drag queen.

I do think Jamie livened it up, a bit. I wouldn't want him as my Doctor, though.

Jamie Karran is on twitter.
Appears he is no longer a doctor (according to his bio) But, on the plus side, he does admit in a recent tweet that he can be 'a bit of a nob'. |

Yes that's what I think. The producers that decide who get on shows obviously like him - can't see why myself unless they are looking to make the shows hideously cringeworthy!

I try to watch UC occasionally to see what kind of things they're up to, and sometimes I've had to park a question or two because we've been beaten to the punch. But our filming schedule, which often finishes only 3-4 weeks before the first show goes out, usually allows us to react to current events and trends before other shows. it's impossible to avoid situations where similar ideas are used in the latest series that are filmed at roughly the same time. |

Totally wrong of me, I know, but I can't look at Emma without being reminded of Kenneth Cope in Carry on Matron. I'm sorry.
