That's my impression too. (Although as a father of three I always appreciate it when they have a CBeebies-related question, which has happened quite a lot in the past couple of series!)

I think it's inevitable that the quality of contestants will drop a notch over time. Champion teams in the early series often featured the creme de al creme of talent from the British quizzing scene - the likes of David Stainer and David Lea, for instance. (Full disclosure: David Lea is a friend - I've quizzed with him on occasion before and while my general knowledge is better than most, the amount of stuff he knows is scary.)

He gets in a couple of reasonable one-liners, but then just doesn't know when to stop.

I genuinely thought she was a masculine looking woman at first but then when she spoke I realized she was a man. The reason I struggled not to laugh is because there is a long history of cabaret drag artists in the UK. Danny La Rue. Remember him? A famous drag artist. Les Dawson had a character called Ada which was a big part of his comedy act.

So when you see a man dressed up as a woman on a quiz show it's hard to take him/her seriously. I don't think my reaction - certainly when you consider the long history of comedic drag artists on tv/theatre/film - was unreasonable or wrong.

Oh for goodness sake - I thought we got over this childish Emma-baiting the first time she appeared.

After a brief double-take the first time around, I didn't really even notice this time. And they wiped the floor with the other team. Good for them.

Emma is not a drag act, so please move past those comparisons.

Thank goodness she has such a lovely and loving family around her as it's clear she can't have such an easy ride with some of the General Public.

I enjoyed the episode ,after suffering loads of teams comprising tweedy savants, and earnest combovers, the two teams last night contained personalities with a sense of fun.

Surely context is everything? Man dressed as a woman on stage whilst you are attending a comedy night = drag queen. Man dressed as a woman on a quiz show or shopping in Tesco = not drag queen.

As far as I'm aware, no-one on the OC writing team also writes for UC. They're made by different production companies as well.

I try to watch UC occasionally to see what kind of things they're up to, and sometimes I've had to park a question or two because we've been beaten to the punch. But our filming schedule, which often finishes only 3-4 weeks before the first show goes out, usually allows us to react to current events and trends before other shows.

it's impossible to avoid situations where similar ideas are used in the latest series that are filmed at roughly the same time.
