The perving of VCM is getting a bit tiresome. There's another thread where you can go to get your rocks off for that.

Oh no, it's the thread police! Scarper!

Agreed, it does get rather tiresome.

I'd say yes. The World Confederation of Billiard Sports (WCBS) is the overseeing body recognised by the IOC in the lobbying to have "cue sports" represented in the Olympics. They have needed to demonstrate that they are a "sport" not a "game" in order to be considered for Olympic inclusion, which they have done, and indeed cue sports have been considered but rejected several times by the Olympics.

Some would consider that thread to be merely discussing "the best of the rest" and therefore is purely an academic footnote in the true history of the world.

Another pretty easy episode. Hope the questions get harder towards the later rounds again, or is the BBC2 move stopping that?

Her attitude, both in terms of comments and appearance, is deliberately provocative and all part of the show (pretty much the same as Nigella Lawson).

She could tone both down, and we'd have a dull host ... and maybe then we would have a thread full of people saying "I got such and such a question on the first clue" or "I got it on the second" and have a dull thread, too?

I would say that people admiring an intelligent woman who isn't a Size 0 clone was a good thing.

I don't see anything wrong with commenting on her attire. It doesn't take over the thread and maybe adds a bit to it.

I got the vans on the wall straight off. Oddly, they were the only 4 that i could see that fitted. usually there are at least 5.
I might be a anal here but I think Luton is a body rather than a van as it can be fitted to different chassis, e.g, a Transit or Bedford chassis can have a Luton body.

That's the way I saw it - Transit, Sprinter and the other one are actual names, as in Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, but Luton is a description of a body type, which IIRC, means in this case that the load space carries on over the cab.

Not a huge issue as such, as I guess they all pertain to vans?

I think it has evolved to become a name for a type of van. Sprinter and Transit are van models but Bedford is a brand name so the four did have various connections with vans.

I can't recall if Bedford was one of the names, but we're talking about the word "Luton" here, which was one of the answers!

EDIT: Here you go, a nice little Wikipedia article with an equally nice little piccy of a Luton van, which just to add to the interest, is a Ford Transit van with a Luton body!

Connections with vans perhaps so they can just about make the connection valid. I think OC play a little "loose" sometimes in the connections. In a previous series the connection was "Trucks" although one answer was in fact a diesel engine (Cummins IIRC), which is not a truck.

Where's the thread where I'm allowed to slag her off?

Sorry, thought Bedford was the fourth word.

Patronising crap more accurately. Don't try to dignify it by pretending it's in any way remarking on her intelligence.

Now this is more the sort of chassis discussion Only Connect should be spawning

Are you suggesting that VCM has a Luton body?

Dave Taylor from the Wordsmiths (?), the Sunderland based team from a couple of seasons ago, is on Counterpoint on Radio 4 this week. In fact now if you're quick enough.

If you find it point it in my direction. I cannot stand the woman. Her voice, her unfunny comments, thinks she's clever when she's reading from a card, she seems to know she's a nerds wet dream and plays on it. She got the job because her father was famous. I'm sure she's a lovely person, but I find her incredibly irritating

I'm not sure why people labour that point. So her father was on telly.
She's a journalist/writer who has been on tv before and presented some programmes and documentaries.
What's so wrong with offering her a quiz show presenting job?

While I agree she's carved out her own career, (but journalist? really?) she's just not very good at this.

Alan Coren was rarely on television - he was a radio presence first and foremost.

I have a quibble with one of the wall solutions - aircraft carriers. HMS Bulwark isn't strictly speaking an aircraft carrier - she's a 'landing platform dock', or colloquially an assault ship.

I think she's fine apart from the few instances where she tries to come across as smarter as she is - and I don't mean her reglular manner
There are some obvious instances.

Other than she she seems a capable host. I much prefer her to host than Kirsty Wark who they gave a couple of quiz/panel shows to present and I thought she was awful at presenting them.
