Hermes and Invincible weren't aircraft carriers either.

Hermes and Invincible are aircraft carriers, in that they carry aircraft, or at least fixed-wing aircraft. If you extend 'aircraft' to include helicopters, then Bulwark does qualify, but then so would most frigates. Invincible was officially classed as a "through deck cruiser" to sneak an aircraft carrier through procurement, but I don't think anyone was particularly fooled. I better stop before I succumb to pedantry.

Egg-on-face time, there was an earlier aircraft carrier named Bulwark, Centaur class sister-ship to Hermes.

That Bulwark was decommissioned in March 1981 - just a year before the Falklands. There were moves to recommission her as part of the fleet in 1982.

The point I am trying to make is that it makes a change for people to be admiring someone who IS intelligent and not the normal size 0 + clown makeup on every other channel.

You're talking about a forum with a thread about who has the best boobs on telly...

Yep - she should stick to dancing on Newsnight.

I think we know what your point is, but her intelligence seems to be incidental rather than the point of your admiration.

To be fair, the previous ship of that name was a carrier - and it was the one I thought of because I remember walking around her as a child in the 60s at one of Portsmouth's Navy Days.

I havent said anything about her, nor displayed any admiration.

Just saying it makes a change for people to be "into" someone that isn't obvious.

[quote=Heston Veston;75271236]Alan Coren was rarely on television - he was a radio presence first and foremost.

Alan Coren was a writer and journalist. He was the editor of Punch for years and had columns in The Times, The Mail, The Observer and The Express. He wrote scripts and was a published author. He appeared on TV for eight years in Call My Bluff and he was a regular on The News Quiz.

I liked him. Thought his demeanour and the way he answered was funny.

Good competition this week though. Those missing vowels really came through this week,

I don't know why he complained about dragons in the missing vowels round, they basically knew hardly any of the others either. Annoying and a bad loser.

I didn't see him as a bad loser. He was basically kicking himself in jest that the category scuppered them.

Yes well they lost the round 10-3 so he's just looking for excuses. Hopefully he'll be on his way home after the next game.

He was repellent, as were the other two team members to a slightly lesser extent. He reminded me of Jeremy Clarkson. I couldn't stand them! I was so glad the other team won!

Wow, what a strong reaction! I didn't think that at all - I thought he was amusing and was able to laugh at himself.

They were the most nauseatingly self-important quiz team to appear on TV since last year's winners of University Challenge.

Not atypical to see your name pop up in a thread spewing some bile. In fact a sadly regular occurrence.

Worst than the Board Gamers and their captain in particular? Not possible.
