Why did Claire Balding get extra long to think of answers after buzzing in? Was Victoria too scared to tell the "national treasure" she was taking too long?

I was just about to provide a link to it.

Here's hoping for a new series...

I think that was just part of giving the contestants a little bit of extra flexibility as they're new to the show, and not people who would have studied every episode prior to filming - it wasn't too bad this time, but in previous specials, it's usually very obvious that the first time they've even heard of the show is when they arrive at the studio!

I had Google for the cloud one.

Google Cloud, Google Earth and Google Wave. Thought it might be a map for the fourth one.

That has been something which has baffled me in previous celebrity specials. I agree that this year they all seemed to have seen the show or at least taken the trouble to understand the concept which made it more enjoyable than previous years.

I dislike 'celebrity specials' on other programmes. Only Connect is the only one I watch.

Those questions were way easier than normal. I was surprised Simon Jenkins got the Canute one wrong considering he's written a history book covering the period, and Clive Anderson getting the legal question wrong - if he's ever defending me I hope he doesn't suggest I plead necessity.

I dislike them when the "celebs" don't take them seriously. Some of the previous Only Connects have been borderline in that respect where the teams haven't understood the concept and even failed to understand that they have to buzz in to answer.

It looked like this time they had either chosen celebs who were familiar with the show, or given them a thorough pre-show tutorial.

I thought Clare Balding's wife (forgotten her name) seemed a bit clueless at times, in terms of saying "next" and buzzing before the time was up.

Oh yes that. I can usually actually get questions right on the celeb specials, so that proves that they're made easier.

Alice Arnold, former Radio 4 royalty now sadly in self imposed exile.

Ordinary people could play in a charity Children in Need special.”

It's not a new thing - they've done it several times before. Personally I enjoy it just as much - the questions are (usually) a little easier which allow me to actually get some right!

It's also a pleasure to see Mrs Coren Mitchell wearing those yellow pudsey ears again..

I've never taken Konnie Huq to be that ittellectual. For some reason I just think of her being out of her depth in the conversation when her hubby and friends get together.

That's a point I was going to make along with Balding pressing the buzzer to stop the timer but continuing to discuss the answer, one time in depth.

I realise it's a celeb special and the rules are relaxed but again it did seem like the contentants didn't know the rules fully.

Konnie, bless her, looked pretty [ as only she can do,] but was rather out of her depth, she must have thought it was Sleb Family Fortunes or something.

I'll now be roundly scolded and informed that Konnie has a PHD in Knowing Lots Of Obscure Historical Stuff from Oxford.

I didn't get the married thing with Claire Balding, a bit weird, do you think someone should tell her she has married another woman by mistake.

This post was brought to you by the previous century. Or maybe the one before that.

I can understand David Mitchell and Victoria being together (even though it makes me envious to think about it) but I'm never quite got my head around Konnie and Charlie Brooker. She must have been attracted to his very large...err.. wit. She's a pocketful of loveliness but I've never seen her as having any particular ability or talent.

Now if Konnie and Victoria were to knock on my door and ask me nicely, I'd be tempted to make a big donation to Children in Need

You can probably remove "to Children in Need" from the end of that sentence

According to wikipedia, Konnie Huq has a 2:1 in economics from Cambridge. Which may not impress your professional quizzers, but it makes her more qualified to be Chancellor of the Exchequer than the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
