Doc Martin (Part 17 — Spoilers)
Continuation of: Doc Martin (Part 16 — Spoilers) Quote:
I always think people can change but I think they have to want to and Mummy Dearest doesn't want to & maybe even couldn't couldn't change. She is selfish and nasty. Incredibly blasé about announcing that his father had died and the funeral was 2 weeks before! Excellent acting but chilling.

I recommend it! -- if you have lots and lots of time on your hands. Fun to see what people thought of S3,4 and 5 as they aired.

How many years has the Doc Martin forum been going?
Reading part 1 is a trip down memory lane! I often think fondly of the late night Doc chats and wonder what happened to those who posted in the early days

I just did. Not as easy as I though. Google would only go to part 12 and then had to go back through each part until 1.

Well, I have been watching the older Doc Martin shows - again! lol - and I wish the writers nowadays would make him more personable.
In the older show he had a few saving graces. One of my favorite things was how when he was yelling at someone, the instant he thought there may be a medical problem, he softened and immediately went into "diagnostic mode". Also the show about the teen who wanted breasts. Once she started crying he was instantly finding a way to make it better - the mints were genious! I dont see why the last two series have been so without those saving graces. I did love the wedding show this year though. Very well done. I realize this series has become a more serious drama and I guess I will try to go with the flow! Gotta watch Martin Clunes regardless.

There was an interesting picture posted, where both Caroline C. And Martin C. were wearing sunglasses. They looked liked such a team. What is missing from there togetherness, is the banter we see in couples. Like on the wedding night, when Martin tells her the first joke. Louisa sees Martin's capabilities. She sees his humanity. In the past, she knew how to bring this out. I am hoping the writers will let us see the two sides in the future: Doc as the snide, crisp professional and doc, the dad and loving, caring spouse. |

The concern at the beginning of series 6, once Louisa and the Doc were married, people would loose interest in the show. In the contrary, most of us wanted to know more about life on their HOMEFRONT.

New & updated DM blogs
I checked out the Doc Martin Series 6 blog this morning
http://docmartinseries6.blogspot.com/ and learned about yet another new DM blog: http://karengilleland.wordpress.com/ It's very nice and includes episode reviews as the shows air on Acorn in the US. She's got some pre-series 6 info there, a review of E1 (with a cute ratings thermometer), and has even been in contact with ITV about the replacement of "Sailing" with whatever song was used. She got an explanation directly from Philippa Braithwaite. Pretty cool. I wonder if the blogger also participates here. The other fairly new DM blog we learned about last month has also been updated with some very interesting thoughts and comments. http://docmartinlovers.com/ It's so nice to have all of these sources. |

I totally agree. Just because the couple is married doesn't mean a show can't be interesting, There are shows with married couples that have good ratings.

I totally agree. It is a fallacy that a committed couple means the end of the show. The Doc is never going to be Cary Grant and Louisa will never be Grace Kelly - but they can be together and love each other in their own way and be quirky and interesting and disconsoant. But for that to work the show needs to reinstate the humor and the romance IMO - so the spectrum in which they are playing is broader.

In a secluded lodge, the couple’s finely played honeymoon sequence sparks a warm glow. I like the gentle nod to Martin’s past tactless remarks after kisses (bad breath, hormonal imbalance). A lingering kiss, and Louisa whispers: “Whatever you say.” “I didn’t say anything.” “I know.” Can someone please explain how this is a reference to DMs past tackless remarks? I thought it was just LGs way of saying whatever you say goes tonight. |

I thought it was just LGs way of saying whatever you say goes tonight. It's also been suggested that Louisa said, "I'll open that champagne", and she expected that Martin would object or start talking about dreadful effects on the liver and such, so she said, "Whatever you say," before he had a chance. There's also the possibility that Louisa's "whatever you say" means she's accepted him for who he is and she's not going to get upset or angry no matter what he says. And, of course, there's your choice, that whatever he says goes (interesting!) tonight. It's a confusing conversation. This blogger seems to go with the first option. I'm not sure. I've changed my mind a few times. |

I've a feeling him saying no just then is the final nail in the coffin
I'm intrigued to see how this pans out. |
