That's right. They "can't all go swimming around in a suit all day!"

What, who? What did I miss? An interview with Crowdy or Philippa? Was it in that latest PBS fundraiser? Always on the lookout for any S8 hints, no matter how small.

There will definitely be a Series 8; it's for sure a go now. And, likely a Series 9.

Whoa. Is this information available somewhere for public consumption? Not really knowing everyone's level of access to this stuff, I'm just wondering how credible it is. Don't get me all excited for nothing now!

It's very credible. Multiple people have received emails directly from staff members at Buffalo Pictures that new series will come out in 2017 and 2019.

It's confirmed and definite. This is the first time that I know of that they've promised 2 seasons in advance.

Those writers have a monumental task ahead of them. They have to boldly go where no one has gone before. Series 9? Quite optimistic. We'll see.

But perhaps the Clunes will be able to retire comfortably. lol

S8? but where will the M&L relationship go from the end of S7? They both agree they are not perfect and have issues. One thing to relate it to each other on the edge of a hillside but quite another to go back to the surgery and live as a married couple. Danny showed up in S7. Will Edith show up in S8? - perhaps DM will somehow be at Truo part time in some capacity, but in what capacity - you doctors on this forum might have an idea or two.
What about Buddy? He doesn't seem to have a home. Is he living at AR's and Al's B&B? Buddy II - is he a replacement for Buddy I?
Could the series improve if more time were spent on M&L and less time on the other cast members?

Wow. How exciting.

What will they do?

Have Martin and Louisa get back together?

And then have Martin and Louisa separate?

And then have Martin and Louisa get back together?

And then have Martin and Louisa separate?

And then.................so on, and so on, ad nauseum.

Judas Priest, they are greedy. They really don't know when to call it quits. I guess with the absence of D/A, they need a new locale to sucker in the tourist Americans.

Oh - this is funny. I was joking about the mystery of a Series 8 (to NP) but they have confirmed it and another series, as well ?!? Roscarrock: I found something online with the producer (his lovely wife) in an interview where she talks about a possible future for the show. (Hence, she mentions Buddy)

I was watching online with Carson (DA) and HerNameEscapesMe and had this awful vision that this might be MnL in a matter of a few short years. (especially with CCatz managing her own "styling" for the role) What a HORRID thought.

The couple and the story is so OVER because of their own tunnel vision. With his insistence that he play this character as an imbecile in an expensive suit and then stick HER into that BOX, I have no confidence that they will be able to turn this around. I mean - does Louisa Glasson still exist? That **** that she spewed at the end on that stupid hill while some of us choked and were FORCED to SWALLOW was enough for me. My only revenge - I will not nor will I ever buy ONE single DVD. I invested two years and I got no payoff. I don't like being DUPED.

Switch up the producers (die-hards - don't faint) and bring in a female writer and maybe things will change. They could all use a vigorous kick in the *** but NONE of that will happen.

Will they plan something drastic down the road - sure. Its been hinted here and I believe that "they" have had this in their back pocket for some time. This isn't a fairy tale, afterall. (As the LittleTerror, Buddy, and the MightyMartin run off into the sunset)
I prefer they fall off some cliff...

Marchand. The PCTs where Martin originally worked have been brought under NHS. The actual surgery which serves Port Isaac has several doctors, nurses, techs, midwives and a practise manager. To put Martin in charge of that type of practice would give an opportunity for conflict outside the M and L relationship. It might also help,Martin develop the personality that was emerging in Series 7. He could still be the brilliant diagnostician with interesting cases but would manage others.

Agree that it should be moved forward as Martin, especially, is too long in the tooth to focus on the romance

Yeah, it seems as if each series after 3 or 4 was written believing it would be the last. I guess they had to plan for that, though. MC is on record talking about purposely not resolving the M&L relationship issues for fear of the show becoming boring. So every series they have to start again, and yes, after 2 or 3 seasons of the back and forth it becomes a bit tedious.

Personally I think they should focus less on M&L and more on the other characters. IMO some of the best episodes were more centered on other characters... Mark's stag party, Bert's restaurant, Terry Glasson's heist, Aunt Joan's lawsuit. All of this with M&L interacting with the other characters while dealing with their own issues.

That is, don't focus so much on a tortured relationship. There's probably still a lot of fertile ground in the other characters' story lines. If the writers can just get M&L back to that place where they were a little more comfortable and open, not as paranoid about each other, and engaged with the villagers, maybe the joy that comes across in the first couple of series can be rekindled.

About S8, I suppose there won't be an official announcement until next year?

I'm not making this up. Several people received emails from BP that said they will film in 2017 and 2019. I'm just reporting what I heard. Ian McNeice also told someone the same thing.

I run a Doc Martin fan meetup group here in Washington, DC. We are a completely open group, and new members join all the time. I've learned that some people just love the show. They love getting together with other fans. Some members drive very far to come to our events. It brings a lot of joy to their lives. They all want to go to Port Isaac in 2017.

Then don't watch....absolute solution.

Are you on drugs...seriously. I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm as skeptical as the next guy about this future undertaking but you are talking about an alternate universe. BP will not break up...they could use a female writer, but to lay the blame on Philippa is idiotic. Your post is incomprehensible.

I read recently that BP has licensed the show out to many countries to the tune of millions of pounds. I think they've reached comfortable if that's the case.

The downside is the same article also mentioned a US version in the works. Now there's a scary thought.

I was being facetious...sorry. They do have a lot of overhead though.

Even with his charity work their tax bite has to be huge. He could do the charity bit 24/7 and not have enough offsets.

Oops. Yes you did "lol" after all. I missed that.

I was really just continuing the thought with the news of licensing and the horrific idea of a Hollywood version coming to TV. I know it's been done many times before with other shows but, with the possible exception of "Antiques Roadshow", I'm not sure I've ever preferred an American version of any UK TV program. "The Office" wasn't a total disaster but I still prefer the UK version.

I'm never sure if these things have already been discussed in the 17 DM threads on this board, and it would take forever to find out. Chances are yes, but anyway...

Here's a little quiz:

Over the years, the show has brought back actors in different roles. One example is the "Matchmaker" patient from S1 returning as Dr. Dibbs later on. Can anyone think of other cases of this occurring on DM?

Yes, I'm cheating off Kate Kennedy's site.
I don't know if there are any new role reprisals in S7. Haven't looked that close for it.

Yeah, figured! Gonna have to dig deep to come up with new stuff I guess. My problem is I'm just now mentioning things that were likely hashed over years ago. That's what I get for coming in at series 6 then binge watching 1-5.

It's going to take a deep dive.
