The episode was certainly pack full of incidents and it was a showcase for the character of DM. Although I'm sad that AR had to give such clear narrative explanation for DM--it just seemed a bit made up--I'm sure it was helpful and it was perfectly timed to allow DM to stand up to his mother in such a marvelous way. The dashing about did elevate my adrenaline and it was interesting to have DM do the surgery, which has already been noted would not be okay, (nor is it okay to lock someone in a closet and apparently have no one notice that someone is, no doubt, pounding and screeching to be let out right by the surgical theatre). Plus, having had brain surgery, after the prepatory Versed injection (or the British equivalent) you really cannot hold any type of real conversation and yes, LG would remember none of it. Unless, there is a PW effect floating around Truro Hospital!
Nonetheless, I suppose if we learned that deep down DM felt that he was unlovable and created a situation and an emotional downfall to push LG away (oddly after having had four good months with her), so he could learn he is lovable and he will use LG's guidance to be a better husband, that's good, I suppose. Not sure it was worth all the middle episodes we had to trudge through, though.
I hope others agree this finale was enjoyable.”

Yes, absolutely, a very enjoyable conclusion to S6. It's a little ironic that Jack Lothian seems to be the writer who best "gets it", gets the emotions right, understands the characters, and who knows how to bookend a series best, yet he's the one who was demonized at the end of S3. He's written the concluding episode for the last four seasons, hasn't he?
Like you, I enjoy episodes with lots of "dashing about" (great way to describe it), and lots of action and movement.
Not sure I agree with your sadness about AR having to give Martin a clear narrative explanation. I think it's what he had to have. He's been in denial for most of his life and when he came to Ruth in desperation, he was most open and ready to receive the advice she had to give. But we know Doc doesn't do subtle. She had to clearly spell it out for him. It worked. It was in that scene that Martin's outlook and the mood of the episode changed and it's why we had hope rather than pure sadness at the end.
I'm glad you enjoyed the finale. Lothian is really, really good at this.

Good question about the writers' possible frustrations. I wouldn't be surprised, especially among those who, like Lothian, have been with DM for a good, long time.
Been waiting several episodes for this!
