I wonder if what we will see this time will in some ways mirror the development of their relationship in S1-S4, especially. This time it will be DM who is active in pursuit, and Louisa who wants to be won over, but is afraid ("once burned, twice shy") and trying to inhibit her feelings. Occasionally, perhaps her desire for him will break through, but she will return pretty quickly to a more distant stance. (Please, writers and PB, no Edith or Danny surrogates!)
They could even reprise some of our favorite bits -- only in reverse.
That this time, in fact, the fate of the relationship will be up to Louisa. I think the ending clearly implies this. Can she be won back before DM, presumably having gained some capacity for insight and a new sense of his own worth, decides that it's futile to keep trying, and that he needs to take some renewed opportunity to move on? Perhaps this will be the ultimate tension -- the final resolution, only playing out in the last half of E8.
Perhaps Aunt Ruth will finally have to tell Louisa to re-commit to him, or let the poor man go.
I know that people will feel that he would never leave her of his own volition, but a) it's the only direction they haven't gone yet and b) how many times can a person beat their head against a stone wall before deciding it's really healthier to give up? which actually, come to think of it, was exactly Louisa's decision in E8 of S6. She hadn't finally decided to give up yet, but it was coming, as I think Martin fully believed.”
First of all, I think AR can be a help, but I don't think that she can be everybody's therapist as some suggest.....it just feels very messy and incestuous. I do think that she should be able to discuss things with Louisa and give her information and advice, but she can't get involved further. Martin definitely needs outside help.....I'm hoping they'll find a brilliant male actor to fill that role.
As to wooing Louisa back......it seems to me if DM got within 2 feet of me and acted nice I would be all over him. I don't know how long she could hold out. Sorry, just me being bad. Not what's on the program.
