I have two thoughts about his demeanor in the taxi. I think he really wants this marriage, but the wedding - not so much. But he knows it is important to Louisa. So he spends his time in the taxi getting himself steeled for what is to come: being the center of attention, professing his love to Louisa in front of a lot of people, etc. All he wants to do is get through the day.

But I also think, in a production sense, they did this to try to fool us over where he was going and what was happening. When he stepped out of the cab, the church with the archway of flowers and everyone all dressed up was supposed to be a big reveal - a "gotcha!" But I suspect it was ITV who decided that they would promote the start of the series by promoting the wedding. Back in March-April when they were filming these scenes I suspect they thought they were going to surprise us.

That's just my take, for what it's worth...
Both of those make sense, Shop Girl. In fact, when they were filming, they explicitly tried to fool us, as I remember, by saying that they had filmed "two weddings" and that there was a scene in which Martin "stormed out" of the church. Shows how much attention we can pay to such tidbits, no matter how hard we try to parse them!

Yes, thank you, Shop Girl! I think almost everyone here has forgotten how DM's demeanor changed completely once he was finally alone with LE at the lodge. In the wake of how he had rushed the ceremony and kept wanting to leave the reception early, it makes perfect sense. DM has never been one for public displays, and that is exactly what the wedding and reception are. So I think it is understandable that, as you said, he didn't want a big wedding. Perhaps he even dreaded it!--which would explain his expressions readily. One thing for sure, he was not dreading anything at the lodge!

You're right Zarwen, he was delighted that there wasn't any cell signal or telephone and sure was quick to do his bed bug check...sigh..if only....

Instead, any relationship they had deteriorated in season 6 and season 7 will presumably show how the rebuild it with professional help

Cookie. One thing Martin must renoncile in season 7 is his inability to return to surgery. Hope didn't want London as a place to liver but as a place to be the best surgeon. Creature comforts mean little to him. In fact his asceticism is another thing that must be resolved in their relationship. He has nice clothing and a car, but I don't believe he thinks of them as creature comforts but simply what you wear in drive when you wre raised in his economic class.

With that said, he must reconcile living in Portwenn. I don't think it is the location, but the people
He has lived like a monk, with his nice suits his habit, so to speak. That does have to change. If he begins to let go of his rigid character armor, (instead of it crumbling as he disintegrates), I wonder if his choice of clothes will symbolize this?

Let's hope S7 brings into Portwenn some new characters, who he can at least actually tolerate. Everybody needs some friends, outside of their spouse!
They will have to show him changing from the current rigidity. But this is not going to be an easy task and I think they will have to allude to counselling of some sort - hopefully someone better than Mrs T counselor!!

I also hope they reconcile the idea of DM being a surgeon and reconcile DM to LG working and reconcile DM to living with LG and JH. Actually I want them to go further than reconciliation - I want them to prove to me that DM and LG can live together happily forever.

A lot to do in s7!

Tons of avenues to explore. Every episode should be chock full of great material....damn...it's so far away.....I have to get a little whine in periodically.

What do you think they will do with Mrs T in series 7?

I would hope for an early exit. I don't want her to disappear and have no closure because Selina Cadell has been such an important character. It would be nice if Clive came back and they reconnected and she got well and lost her fixation on Martin. They could climb into their Winnebago and drive off into the sunset. I feel that her storyline has come to an end. What do you think?

Yes, I agree. I don't want her turning into a psycho. It would be nice if Clive came back and took her away. Not sure why they didn't do that this series but I guess Bert wouldn't have had the incentive to ask Jenny to marry him unless she was jobless.

I hope they get a new manny too. Someone good looking Maybe Roger Fenn's wife, Maureen, will be the nanny!

I don't think Elinor can really add more to LG's storyline/history.

The manny was a one off. The Fenns have moved elsewhere..too bad. Louisa has a couple weeks recovery time ahead. One interesting thing will be the time frame in which things take place...pick up later that afternoon....days later...or show Martin seeking his answers in a matter of weeks. I think that will be interesting in that it's hard to see Martin's process as a couple of weeks work....but who knows. I'm sure the script assignments have been devised and/or the scripts being formulated as we speak, or maybe early next year.

To end the show the way they did must mean, surely, that they have an idea of where they want to go with s7. Maybe not the scripts but at least the storyline.

Only in Portwenn could DM be "cured" in a few weeks but then we are in Portwenn.

It seems that they must have known well before S6 was finished being scripted, that they were going to have to have a S7 to finish out the story line. So we can hope that indeed the scripts are in process and S7 should be a real gem!

I can do the "Portwenn Effect" for every implausible medical thing: baby born in pub and mother striding up and down the hills of Portwenn two days later, among them. But if they try to have Martin "cured" in one episode or learn he was "cured" in the time between Season 6 and 7, I will have the same reaction Martin has on seeing blood.

Oh, you are so right...if they do that there will be such a loss in the possibility of introduction of new material...history, discussions...I don't even oppose the thought of flashbacks, if they're done in a tasteful and quality fashion. Sometimes flashbacks can be corny and poorly done so BP has a narrow rope to tread...but I think they can do it. Just jumping to...Martin is all better...would be horrible. I don't think they'll do it.

Agree. I certainly hope they don't begin S7 with everything all fixed. It would be much richer to watch M & L work through things. I also hope there is some simple physical affection at the beginning, that then deepens toward the end of the series. Maybe part of their growth is to become more comfortable with their emotions and affection with one another. They've both seemed awkward in that department over time.

Sorry to barge in but... I can't see ANY news about a Series 6 DVD release. I see Acorn in America has slated its release for December 10th but no news on a UK release?

They are repeating S4 on my local public TV station right now. E1, M cuts his right hand on shards of glass. S6 he gets his hand sliced by the nutjob who was stalking AR. Later, he drops the plate on the floor when his mother grabs that same injured hand. Not sure if that is a subtle sign or connection that we're all missing...or just a coincidence? I also notice that while both series show him grossed out by the injury. S4 with Edith unwrapping the bandage and evaluating the injury and S6 as he's trying himself to tend to the wound.

And the injury magically going away from one episode to the next...both times.

I'm surprised the DVD hasn't been released in the UK yet. I'm more surprised that the DVD release in the states will happen before it is even broadcast on TV here.

I pre-ordered S6 from Acorn on September 8th and on October 4th received an e-mail with a notation they had received an overwhelming demand. . . on Oct. 29th-another e-mail that they are lowering price on pre-order from $39.99 to $29.99 and shipping would be sooner than expected: to early December. On Nov. 5th-another e-mail: due to overwhelming demand they are out of stock. The latest I heard is that the delivery will be early January.
For the life of me I can't understand why dvd has not been made available to the British first on their Region 2 dvds. I have a memory that when S5 was released, Region 2 dvds of S5 were available in the U.K. in Dec. 2011. In the U.S. (Region 1 dvds) S5 were available in May 2012.
Another thing, on S5 dvds (Region 1 only) they had a special feature of interviews with various cast members by Bohdan Zachary of KCET (pbs station in California). Any news of interviews at the end of the S6 dvds?

I just pre-ordered my copy of S6 from Barnes & Noble at an even further discounted cost of $26 and some change + free shipping and tax only charged. Let's see if I get the same "out-of-stock" or other such message as those who ordered from Amazon or Acorn.

It seems strange. You would think the us TV rights holder would be up in arms that the DVD was released before it was shown on TV.

That and the price drop suggests that they CANT release it before it's shown on TV but have accidentally releases a few and that the demand is not there this series (despite the spin they've put on it - who reduces the price of a hot item?) maybe because it was dismal.

I do love that character. I was sorry to see her lose her dignity in E8, which is clearly so important to her. I hope Clive does come back and sweep her away in his Winnebago. And that she can be seen being comforted by his presence and settling down a bit.

That said, the scenes with Jenny didn't have the crackle and bite of her scenes with Eleanor. I'd like to know more about the history between those two!

If you listen carefully to the dialogue in S5E8 at the Castle, neither Drs. Ellingham wanted to press charges against Mrs. Tishell. What surprised me was her return so quickly. In my mind the most important thing in her life, bar none, is her position as a pharmacist at the Portwenn Chemist Shop. It would be interesting in S7 if they would explore DM trying to avail LE of her fears of Mrs. T being back in town. Mrs. T has played such a strong character role in this series that I cannot see it going on without her.

In real life, it would take her YEARS to get back into pharmacy...if at all...but we all know this is not real life (at least for most of us). Nudge, nudge
