Turns out that bloke didn't make the final but I know what you mean. If you can get a good drop with a double you're pretty much guaranteed to get to the final.
I should have made that clearer. When I said "make the final",I meant make the final two players. Which he did. But general knowledge comes into it much more in the final and the woman he was playing was clearly superior,he hardly scored anything after the first round.

I don't dislike Ben Shepherd but can it be so difficult to make him look reasonably smart?
Today he's sporting a sort of evening jacket. It's black with shiny, black lapels and he's wearing it with a black, open necked shirt. He looks ridiculous.

That silly woman on today's edition.
She hasn't seen her son for more than seven years (he's in Australia) and she badly wanted to get to Oz to see him and his wife and three children whom she had never met.
She got to £2700 - which could have got her there and back - but she decided to trade(when the bonus counter was nowhere near the tipping point) and left with nothing.

If they refuse the trade at the end,why do they bother with the,"Let's see what would have happened" bit? It's completely pointless. It's not like Deal or No Deal, where there's an amount in the box,and it won't change. You can't possibly say that just because the jackpot counter dropped when the extra three counters were played, that it would also have dropped if it had been in live play.

The whole universe is different, the player will release the counters at fractionally different times, they will fall a different way, something completely different will more than likely happen.

Today the player refused the trade, probably correctly, because the jackpot counter was in an awkward spot and he probably wasn't favourite to get it out with three more. But of course they play it out and one landed in exactly the right place and nudged another one which nudged the jackpot counter, and it dropped.

But so what? How can you say that that would have happened if he'd played on for real?

The answer is,you can't.

Yep, that's what I've been telling myself for the last 18 months when I refused the trade and the jackpot counter went next go....

I couldn't agree more. On some occasions I have seen Ben release the "Let's see what would have happened" counters. How bl**dy stupid is that.

Similar to the Tipping Point "Let's see what would have happened" nonsense, last night I was in a bookies and a couple of lads were playing one of the roulette machines.

The way these things work is the machines cycle through thousands of numbers per second. At the moment you press the start button, the machine selects whatever number it's on as the winning number, and then plays out the roulette wheel animation for that number.

Anyway, zero had just come up and the lad had a couple of quid on it.His mate was telling him to have more on zero. But the other lad didn't,he just pressed repeat bet, then spin. Zero came up again. His mate said,"I told you! You should have had more on it!"

But if he'd had more on it,the universe is different. It would have taken a second or so extra time to place those extra chips,he would have pressed the Start button at a different time, and zero probably wouldn't have come up.

I was going to explain that to them, but I thought I'd better not. They might not appreciate it.

Bens, just described a counter drop as a 'frisky settle'
Is that a new one

The young woman looked odds on to do well today but then somehow her brain stopped functioning. Great crested grebe a frog ? Polonium isn't radioactive, tell that to Litvinenko !! I could excuse her not knowing who Martin Amis is or what he's written but she came close to being the worst TP finalist I've seen.

The northern contestant definitely said "oh shite" in the first round when he got a question wrong, I nearly spit out my tea

I'm watching this one now after finding it in the depths of my PVR. He actually said "Shine On", but sure sounded like he wanted to say that! Bit of an oddball that Edward, he was on another quiz the other week (Freeze Out or that other one that followed it??) and messed up big time. He was overly verbose throughout, but his luck on Tipping Out ran out early, so there was not much opportunity here.

Helena the blonde lady is very cute (well, to me anyway)! Played a storming third round, but maybe got a little flustered in the last.

What happened there, did anyone see that when Chris said 'if I get this wrong, I'll end up with a divorce' seemed to go on a loop for about 5 or 6 times.

It was like when your vinyl record got stuck and you had to give it a nudge

Thought our Sky box had crashed. Relieved it was some sloppy editing.

Was so funny I played it back twice!

Not only did he look like Max Headroom, he actually had a M-M-M-Max Headroom moment.

I've never seen that happen before. I assume it occurred in the actual "playout" centre.

I have never seen a finalist win the jackpot after dropping every counter far too late and getting so many riders. Was he lucky or what?

Which Monarch was the Victorian era named after? Blonde Female - Pass.

I have never seen an episode of TP where all the contestants are releasing the counters far too late. Ben comments they have the timing wrong but they continue to drop them far too late. Non of them deserve to win.
