I'm a 90s child and I bloody knew that, being young is no excuse! Fair enough if you don't know the actual answer, but John Major...come on.

She was in her 30's so she must have heard of John Major. They must go out of their way to find stupid people for this show. At least Ben has a great laugh at the sheer stupidity of these contestants.

I'm really beginning to seriously worry about this country if the contestants on this quiz are in any way representative of the general public. The stupidity of some of them is mind boggling.

What was a Lancaster bomber in ww 2........a tank? was the contestants answer....

What annoys me is the way that Ben Shepard pretends he doesn't know if an answer is right. This just makes him look stupid.

In Pointless when a contestant gives a daft answer at least Xander gives the sort of look, and comment that suggests he knows it's wrong. I guess that Shepard is devoid of a sense of humour, and doesn't know how to put a contestant down gently.

Ben Shepard does our heads in on this show ...;OH NO !!! and he sounds so smug when he reads out the correct answer as if he is saying 'you should have known that.. I did '
I know some answers are hilariously wrong but condescending Ben gets on our nerves

But not as annoying as when they decide not to go fro the trade and then he says "if you'd just been a bit braver you'd have won ....". I can't decide if he actually believes that or is he's just trying to convince the gullible amongst the viewers that the case - the second instance is probably far worse.

lol It annoys me when thickos like her get to the H2H ahead of other contestants with better knowledge. Which wouldn't be hard really in her case.

In 1841 who introduced the first package holiday? Answer, British Airways.

On the other hand it was a pleasant change to the guy who has got to the final dropping the counters at exactly the right time. You would think the other contestants who persisted in dropping late would see how to do it correctly, but no, they continued to drop late.

He took the money and then "proved" that he would have have won the Jackpot if he'd gambled.

That travel agent/package tour question was used a few months ago. The player didn't get it right that time either - if I remember, their answer was Richard Branson.

Obviously British Airways was a pretty lame answer for the first package tour in 1841. The first ever powered flight wasn't made until 1903. But to be fair, I think she knew it had no chance of being right. If you can't think of Thomas Cook, there aren't really any other plausible answers.

It does seem to be the case that the general knowledge standard on this show is lower than that of other shows like The Chase. It is quite surprising the sort of things that people that appear on it don't know. It's especially noticeable in the head to head round, when quite often neither of them will know the answer.

She was a primary school teacher. If she was teaching my kid I'd be asking the head teacher if they were aware that one of their staff knows sod all! They may not be teaching these topics, but a rudimentary general knowledge is important. Thinking that Britiish Airways was around in 1841 is utterly woeful.
I've noticed a trend of teachers on quiz shows knowing very little, not a good sign.

I didn't see the start and had no idea she was a primary teacher.

I usually comment primary school teacher thicko alert as they rarely fail to astonish with their incredible lack of basics, or even a logical thought process to eliminate the wrong options.

Watching the winner I was about to say he was thick enough and slow enough to be a primary teacher - not realising he'd actually beaten one in the previous round.

Bloody embarrassing, they don't seem in the least concerned by their pitiful performance.

Not having quiz-show knowledge skills does not make a person "thick", but the inability to provide a credible guess does.

It's hard to be sure but the contestants do seem to be getting stupider in that sense. I suppose it's funny, at first. But after a while it will grate.

I used to work in a teacher training college and was stunned by how dim some of the students were. And some of the lecturers weren't much better.

I expect it's been said in this thread before, but the old saying rings true: "Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach teachers."

That was the unofficial motto of our college

I've always thought the saying was:- Those that can do, do. Those that can't do teach.

I 'm firmly of the opinion that 'thick' people on quiz shows is down to falling education standards in schools, especially when I see contestants in their twenties or early thirties who cannot answer basic questions on maths/history/geography/politics and other general knowledge facts which I had been taught by the age of ten.

I noticed that yesterday's episode was a repeat (2014) although it wasn't billed in listings as such. I wonder if today's will be?

What made you think it was a repeat? They recycle some questions, or they are common ones on other quiz shows. Then quite often the contestants look the same and there is nearly always a primary school teacher

If the date appeared at the end, then surely they record these a fair time in advance of showing, don't they? When it's a quiz where there is no connection between episodes (e.g. no advancing jackpot), they won't necessarily show them in order of recording.
