Did anyone watch yesterdays? that young lady who made the final had amazing eyes kinda hypnotic.

Yes, I know where the Battle of Jutland was fought. It was off the coast of Denmark, and I knew that long before Wikipedia was invented. But you don't need to know where it was fought to be able to make a reasonable guess at which war it was fought in.

How do work that out?

The British Navy ruled the world for 200 years + Jutland may have been off the coast of Jamaica, or Rhode Island or Gibraltar.

I'll leave you to work out the years.

I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make. The question asked on the programme was "in which 20th century conflict was the Battle of Jutland fought?" It wasn't asking where Jutland is. I was making the point that if it's the 20th century, by far the most likely answers to the question will be either the First or the Second World War. As I said, you don't have to know where it is to be able to make a reasonable guess at which war it was fought in.

Others have made eloquent comments about your post, but just because you don't know where Jutland is doesn't preclude the fact that a lot of people do. But the main point was that it was a (guessable) 20th century conflict as another poster said.

Absolutely, if you're going to guess then go for one of the world wars. You could justify a thought process of "Is Jutland one of the Falkland islands" - okay it isn't but at least it would have been a reasoned guess - (At an outside I would have respected them thinking it was a Vietnamese or Korean province.) - obviously way wrong but still better than passing because a pass says "I can not think of any wars that have happened".

There was a similar one a week or so ago where they asked something like Which political party was Grant Schapps in the Shadow Cabinet for and the lady's response was "I don't even know where to begin to guess, so pass" and I yelled "Just say the name of any political party, that's how you guess."

The prize is not enough the jump to 10k is not worth the risk, no one ever gambles they should make it 20k.

Some of these 3 point questions are really very easy. Easier than they need to be.

They just had a question: "In which decade did the Berlin wall fall?"

The choices were the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Given that this is supposed to be the "harder" category of question, and the wall fell in 1989, the choices should surely have been the 70s, 80s or 90s, to make it a bit harder. You'd have to be almost completely clueless about post war European history to think that the Berlin wall fell in the 1960s.

It didn't matter as she knew it was 1989 anyway.

She won the £10K today and deserved it, I think she got every question right in the jackpot round. Some of them guess their way to victory but she actually knew the answers.

if you get every question right in the jackpot round for three points that's eighteen counters into the machine. If you don't get it out with that many you can consider yourself a bit unlucky (or your timing's useless. ).

That guy in his 30sec questions round answered (correctly) Napoleon Bonaparte but in a very odd way to the question "which leader gave his name to the Napoleonic Wars."

I think they had him re-do it after the fact. Perhaps he had originally answered "Bonaparte" and Ben had wrongly said it was wrong?

I've no sympathy about the riders, all she had to do was drop the counter at the right time.

It's not all about the timing, sometimes the machine drops the counters quickly and sometimes they stick, that affects whether they go flat or not.

I stupidly pressed the wrong button on my remote and missed the last 15 minutes. I take it the team won but how much and did the last guy get through as well?

What a sad bunch these so called celebrities are proving to be. There's little general knowledge among the four of them.
